The Shure SE535 (good or not)?

When you get to that price point there isn't really any empirical conclusion...

Yeah it comes down to personal preference. What exactly are you looking for in a sound signature? The SE535 interested me but at the price premium they are charging, they aren't worth it IMO. If they were to have sales where they dip to $300.00 and below, I think they'd be well worth the money then. I've never been one to pay full MSRP for my audio equipment. Although the Denon 5000s are MSRP'd at $700.00 I paid $399.00 instead.

Well the price isn't what concerned me right now. How are they compared to the Westone 4? Which other competing IEMs are in that pricerange of $400-500?

I actually own the SE535 but i wonder if i bought the wrong brand?

A direct comparison between the W4 and se535.  I prefer the W4s!

After briefly auditioning the Westone 2 and 3 at Canjam 2010, and then listening to the Shure SE535, I can say that I prefer either of the Westones over the Shure. The bass sounded odd to me with the 535.

The SE535s are fantastic IMO. But in the end, I kept my W4s (I sold off my SE535s to help fund my LCD-3s).

I preferred the more balanced sound of the W4s, but the SE535s have the seductive mids.

The Shure 530 or 535 are all around better than 90% of the earphones out there but the price is also high. For less of what you pay for the Shures you can get a equally or even better sounding earphones such as the westone 3. For bass you can get the Atrios for half the price.

SE535 is definitely a bit too expensive for it's current price point.

Same as the others, I have a preference for W4 over SE535 by a small, small edge. That is not to say the SE535 is bad, it is a very good earphone with very smooth mids.

I agree with MaxwellDemon . I also will say the W3 is a bit more enjoyable and has more puncy bass than the Shure. But I still love hearing the Shure for its accurracy. My fav is the Atrios for the bass and a lot less ear fatigue. With the Shure and Westones to get the right sound I end up playing it louder then usual.

Personally I just think that any IEM with more than 2 drivers is just too crowded... which is why I never liked my SE535 but preferred SE425 and UE700 vastly.

Between Shure's sweet mids and Westone's generally no-weakpoint and more balanced sound, people tend to favor the latter when spending over $350.

Not being praised alot in this forum are they not any good compared to other IEMs like Westone 4 and so forth?

In my opinion, I think they're worth it. However, I personally like the Shure sound signature a lot.

I think it's because people get the impression they're just like the SE530s, which are very old news. I got my SE535s yesterday, and I have been liking them overall. I think they're a good improvement over the SE530s. They're, in short, a wider and brighter version. There are some things I wish could be better (I wish it had UM3X bass and more instrument separation), but it still trumps my other IEMs in terms of mids and especially vocals. Please see my first impressions here (I compare to UM3X, SM3, 530):

Thanks for recommending me the Comply Tips! Are they really better than the standard Shure sleeves? Which custom cable do you use?

I am really happy with the SQ of the SE535 but they are not comfortable and will not sit tight on my ears, i guess it's because their big.
