Im not planning on more than 15 miles per week until July. After that i'll do 1 or 2 tenners a week...and maybe in October do a 15 miler...but thats it...

Im waiting for my trainer to contact me. My uncle got two entries with a hefty sponsorship...he also hired a trainer...i'll be headed to NYC sometime next month to meet my uncle and trainer...

Its fun having a rich uncle

Thaddy - do you ice your knees after a 5m run? I tried it today and it felt great...I usually have a mild throbbing sensation in my knees but not today. Im gonna take it easy until my weight comes down.

I am going to ask Jude for a HeadFi T-Shirt to wear at the marathon...

Yeah...life sucks b@lls

The last two days were PERFECT!! Clear skies, no sign of snow ANYWHERE...green grass...man I thought it was spring already.

But I didnt go out yesterday when it was pretty warm - close to 65 in the afternoon...I was nursing a mild case of cramping in the quadriceps but aching to head out.

I told myself - there is always tomorrow...

Crap! Its friggin white again with maybe a 5-6 inches of snow and all my plans have been shot...

Back to the gym

No I don't get those pains anymore, but I usually get an ice bath after 10+ milers. During Cross Country I'll do 80+ miles a week, which means an ice bath every day

I like to ice my calves a lot though, since I wear my spikes during my Monday and Wednesday workouts. Boy do they take a beating after those 10x400's

Oh no. A good treadmill will run me $2000.00 and I plan to get a Meridian source sometime in the future.

I'll just head to my gym (YMCA) and run my ass off for a few hours. The problem is that the treadmill hurts my legs for some reason...

Guru, You should see if there is a local marathon training group to join. That is what my wife did to train for her first half marathon and marathon. They provide you with proven schedules to follow to get you to finish. Just a thought. I have started running and may surprise my wife by putting us both in the lottery for the NYC Marathon. Then this 45 (at the time of the race) year old can kick your sorry butt.

All this talk of distance running makes me sick......because I am not very competitive if it doesn't start with blocks

What is your preferred distance then? 100m ? My brother does 100, 200 and 400m regularly but he is best at the 100m sprints.

I couldnt sprint if my life depended on it...um...I could sprint but it would look odd...like an elephant lost in a concrete jungle...and I wouldnt be able to stop without hitting a wall first
tongue.gif
LOL

I remember once, in school, I was having lunch and a senior runs up to me, takes my lunch and starts running. Well I got up and started running as fast as I could and then he made a turn. I tried to turn but I went over and I was actually in the process of falling for a good 30 meters
tongue.gif
LOL

Imagine me running and slowly tipping over while my legs are still pumping away...and imagine this over a distance of 20-30 meters.

Well that was me...I didnt know I was falling until I bit the dust. And I didnt get to bite my lunch either.

Gah!

I like the 100, 200, and 400, but probably the 100 the best, and 400 the most competitively. If they had a normal 300m without the hurdles, that would be my ideal event. I can do some longer distance cross country with some nice scenery

Hey, maybe you should try long jumping?

The 300m is my event, along with the 110m hurdles. Though I haven't been taking this very competitively. Once this shin heals up.....I''m aiming at seriously cranking into high gear.

Started with some low resistance training today...basically elastic bands strapped to shoes and fastened to the wall at ground level...I walk on the treadmill and the trainer gradually increases the tension...did this for about 25 minutes at a brisk walking pace (approximately 4.0 mph)

This really gave me a good workout compared to the machine leg extensions, presses etc. It worked the muscles that are key to locomotion AND the supporting muscles in the lower back etc...man I was WIPED after 25 minutes and just focused on upper body toning after that...

Tomorrow is "swimming" day and I am REALLY looking forward to getting the weight off my knees. Lost 5 kgs in the last 8 days but trainer says it is mostly water because of a diet with calculated sodium content. The real weight loss will have to start now...

Already feeling fit and I think I look a LOT better than I did about a month back. When I stand straight my chest sticks out ahead of my belly...it was the other way around less than 3 weeks back...so yeah...there is progress and its pretty motivating to see the change (regular photos - no I am not sharing
tongue.gif
).

I will be taking off after the swimming session tomorrow morning and Sunday is rest day. Monday I meet with a podiatrist in Cleveland to find out why my "SHIN" is hurting when I run on the treadmill. Over the phone he suggested using "arch support" in the shoes which I will try before I meet him.

Tuesday onwards the focus will be on weight loss again until I reach my target weight. Trainer says there is no point in trying for distance with all the lard...knees will buckle under the stress. So Until I hit the 82-85 KG mark (which is a LOOOONG way from where I am right now) I wont be running anymore 5Kers. YAY
tongue.gif

Trainer is also reworking my weight training...no more heavy weights...moderate weights and reps like crazy...the weight is low enough to allow me 20-25 reps on arms, chest and lats. I am not starting lower back and back until mid-march.

Sucks having a Trainer who comes in, works with you for a few days and then takes off but this is the way the guy operates. I can only hope I dont slip back into slob mode once he is gone

GS it seems like you are on the right track so far. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me sometime, I'd be happy to lend some knowledge to a fellow Head-Fi'er

I used do 100M sprint, hurdle and 400M relay for my school's track team. Now I just try to run a mile each day and play basketball for a few hours... I can't for the life of me break a 5 minute mile though. My best so far is just under 5:10... Maybe If I run earlier in the day instead of like 11pm at night I might run a little faster but wow I'm dying just getting into the low 5s...
