@UntilThen

The small tube in the middle, front row of your amp. Is that a 6SN7 or maybe a 6SL7?

What you see in the 2nd picture is a RCA 6SN7Gt smoke glass. The socket can take 6SL7, 6SN7, 12au7, 12at7, 12ax7 and any double triodes with suitable adapters.

In the 1st picture is a Brimar 6SL7 red letters.

Since we have a growing collection of pentode experts here (and I'm not one of them), anybody know for sure what this tube is? I picked up several of these at a hamfest many years ago for cheap. They were in white boxes with handwritten 'Siemens EL-34' on them. There is no silkscreening or etching anywhere on the glass or base. While they do look like an EL-34 to me (and test nicely as EL-34's in the Hickok), I have no idea who made them.

Quiz of the day. I know what these are, but they aren't widely known (or at least widely discussed). Hint: although they aren't listed specifically in the thread title, they are card-carrying members of the family. :sweat_smile:

Yes, thats the one. Im awaiting word on how it differs in sound from the Tesla EL51 ive been using in my DAC.
The EL51 has fantastic mids and w/ a sub woofer sounds really nice on speakers, but when you switch to headphones it really lacks spine...so little that even a pair of Bendix 6080s in my GOTL couldnt compensate.

Looks to be different construction, but the Siemens-Rohre EL34 were the stock starter tubes on my Lampi DAC....nothing special, at least not in my DAC.

Tung Sol 6550. There were a few versions of the Tung-Sol 6550 tube over the years. These are from 1960's. This tube has grey flat plates, and triple 'O' getters. They were made in the USA at Tung-Sol's Newark, NJ factory. Smooth highs and powerful bass. I love these tubes in my amp.

I've got to try some 6550. Our @Monsterzero Lampi DACs will probably be able to take them. That friggin DAC seems to be able to take every tube under the sun and has been a major drain on my pocket lol

I don't have much information on EL39 but everyone knows by now that I love them in Odyssey. Some info from Audio Asylum by Jean Luc / France. https://www.audioasylum.com/cgi/t.mpl?f=tubes&m=128712 under the title of 'EL39 is a very good audio valve'. Bass on this tube is special as is the body tone.

I'll post up a 4654K in a few days time. It's the same as an EL39 but with tubular glass.

@leftside
Have you tried the Sophia Electric Aqua el34 in the TRP yet?
I haven't. People seem to like them though. Would be nice to see a few new prod tubes on here as well.

As @UntilThen says these are indeed RFT. It appears RFT made tubes for a lot of companies. I have Fivre branded EL34, but they were also made by RFT. Good tubes.

Bcowen, I think your Siemens EL34 looks like my RFT EL34. Even though it's cheaper , I like the more lean and tight tone. Just another variation to a nice family of EL34.

They do look very similar! The inverted dimple top may not be unique but is rather unusual. And the chintzy tab joints on the plates is something that would more likely have come from E. Germany (of that era...and RFT) than a W. German Siemens (where I would expect spot welds if not full welds). They sound pretty good in my Cary amp, but I haven't spent much time listening to them.

I've never had a tube dac or Lampizator. I just wonder if those same tubes have more influence in a dac or amp. On my SET amp, it's giving me the chills. :) It's already afternoon and I'm still listening to Beck's 'Morning'. Using EL11 and EL12 spez, the song sound so haunting, I'm ready to hug the hot tubes.

Wait till you get your custom amp.
