How is the ZR1 using the stock balanced cable - better than the stock SE? Significantly?

And I also posted this on the WM1A thread and I am reposting here since it will be used with the ZR1's

Curious if anyone has had the opportunity to compare Sony's new PHA-2A portable amp/dac with the WM1A? The PHA-2A is brand new and seems to have been developed with/for the Z1R ( the two are photographed together on the Sony website) with both SE and the new 4.5 balanced out.

I am wondering if the amp/dac performance is the same between the two with the only difference being the DAP functionality of the WM1A.

Using the PHA-2A with an iPhone - it is iPhone certified - would allow Tidal streaming and UpnP streaming from a local NAS etc. If the performance is similar between the two the PHA-2A offeres quite a bit of enhanced functionality.

I'm actually interested in the PHA-2A myself. Right along with the Balanced 4.4 Sony/Kimber kable.

Heard it? I have a pre-production for testing already. It's really very good for the money. It should only be a couple weeks before Sony starts letting us sell them to our clients.

By your quote above I would surmise that you think there is a noticeable difference between the PHA-2A and WM1A (&Z)

Do we have retail cost Info of PHA-2A in NA and how does it compare against something like MoJo considering PHA-2A will be used in Balanced mode. Does it make sense to get PHA-2A if someone already has Mojo.
Headphone in use is Z1R.

My quote wasn't intended to cause you to surmise anything really. However it does have a signature very much like the 1Z in some aspects. In other ways it's similar to the 1A. I'd be happy to provide my thoughts after I receive the production versions

So does that make your T1 a 1.1 iteration?

I think not since there is no new baffle on it, but it still sounds good to me.

On the PHA-2A note, after closely comparing the specs to the PHA-3 and judging from the shape, it would not surprise me if it isn't a PHA-3 with line-in/out and optical-in removed.
My guess it is the same batteries, DAC, and amp. Which is fine as the PHA-3 is fantastic, just a bit expensive.

If I were hifi insider everything would sound great hahahaha just kidding I like Mike. It's a very difficult question to answer because they don't use the same internals but I'd say it is a good amp and it has some of Cavalli's sound stage characteristics
