Kimber got the privileges to use this locking mechanism from Sony. So it should be, but I can not confirm it because I don't have it.

how about holding the wires under the lock, and twist to turn it ? See if it turn or rotate inside the socket when locked in ?

Thanks, good to know. If I would be paying a grand for a cable at least it should have plugs that fit like they should else there's no point in spending money on the cable itself.

Not trying to get into a cable controversy rather wondering what it is about the z1 you're attempting to alter and why

I just got the Kimber for more portable use. The shorter stock cable has the 4.4 balanced connection and can't use it. Nothing to do with altering sound for me. The stock cable with the 3.5 connection is long and I just use it to hook up to my amp.

Mainly 4pin XLR for me, I am sure I don't speak for everyone though.

a handful of japanese aftermarket cables also offer screw on jacks, such as bispa cables, however, with the popularity of elear and beyerdynamic T1/T5 g2s, more are opting for the more universal small barrel 3.5mm such as ORB cables

and ime, beyerdynamic's own cables for T1/T5 offers the greatest vfm as are compatible with Sony Z series, beyerdynamic's own as well as the Elear :)
i preferred it on my z7s over the sony kimber collab both ergonomically and sonically as it's less "dense" and more sonically even handed imo

Those are what I have and it still doesn't do what stock cables do

my then new Z7 stock had a soldering issue and i attempted to reterminate it

only to realise that the wiring within the stock cable is thinner than most iem cables i have, and seriously if i or anyone here could afford a z1R or even a z7, why not shell out for a better built cable even if it's psychological bias? Affordability went out the window a thousand bucks ago :p

By the looks of it those are the switchcraft connectors. I think I might just go for a Forza AudioWorks Claire Hybrid HPC, look nice and can get it with a 4 pin xlr for not insane money ~€259 for 2.5m.
