One of the developers at Bioware reportedly said ME4's protagonist "wouldn't be a soldier." Probably just hearsay, but I wish it was true.
I'd love a prequel taking place during the previous cycle at the height of the Prothean empire, perhaps just as the Reapers appear, playing as the head scientist assigned to oversee development of the newly discovered Crucible plans. Your sidekick can be an "ancient Asari," a vanguard-type character who has limited intelligence and no biotic powers, but can kick copious amounts of ass (pretty much the opposite of "modern Asari" in that sense...).
Maybe teach a primitive Hanar how to sing.
