The "notorious" Sennheiser HD280 Pro...Review

The pressure doesn't get to me at all, so the HD600s would be a 4 under that scale XD

The HD600s would be somewhere in my top 5 most comfortable headphones, though. The most comfortable would be the DT880s. After that, I have the HD800s, HD600s, and K702 65th anniversary editions, and the Fidelio X1s, none of those in any particular order. They are all really comfortable.

Hey I'm thinking of getting the sennheiser hd 650. How is the clamp force of the hd 280 compared to the hd 650? I found the hd 280 to clamp super hard and was unberable. Hopefully the hd 650 aren't nearly as bad.

I just upgraded from the HD 650s, but they were very comfortable. If you buy them new, it might take a bit for the foam to loosen up a bit and form to your head.
But otherwise a very comfortable headphone. They don't clamp nearly as much as the cheaper stuff from Sennheiser.

So do you think the everyone exaggerate the clamp factor of the hd 6xx?

hmm the 6xx essentially has the same clamp as the 280 pro. With the 280 pro it gets better over time more than the hd6xx though.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone thing the 600s/650s have anywhere near the clamp of the 280s.

Definitely. It's almost non existent for my head.

I'll use one reviewer as an example here.
MLE gave the 280s a 1 out of 10 for the HD280s for comfort. For the HD650s, he gave them an 8:

I mentioned that Sennheiser likes their clamp. The HD201, HD280 Pro (!), PC360, and HD598 all have some form of clamp. The HD650 is no different. They do clamp a bit more than I'd personally like, but it's a minor gripe overall. I find the HD650 to be very comfortable overall, and over extending the arms a little, to wear the HD650 slightly loose alleviates the clamp a bit. I've felt better, but not much better. The velours are great. Not too firm, and not too soft. The cups are huge and will fit ears very comfortably. I like the oval shape, which makes them easier to use while laying down compared to circular cups.

and for the 280s:

Comfort-wise.... uhh, no. Just...no. Sennheiser loves it's clamp, and the HD280 Pro is a TORTURE device. It's a vice grip on your head, and the really 'perfect' seal adds heat and sweat on top of that painful clamp. Probably the worst I've used in terms of comfort.

Now, I completely disagree with him because I find the 280s perfectly comfortable.

All right thanks so much for the help Daleb. I guess I'll be getting the hd 600 soon.

Well, one of the best features of the 280's are the noise isolation imo, and I guess part of that comes from the tight seal. Hard clamping is pretty much a given.
I used mine for 4+ hour stretches for years, every day at work, til they wore out...
Didn't bother me much except on really hot and humid days.

Really so you actually think the hd 280 is more comfortable than the hd 600???

Lets say the 280 pro clamp is a 10/10 and the hd600 is a 6/10. The 280 pro becomes a 7/10 after some use while the hd600 remains about the same. Thats what I meant.

But, personally I find the hd280 pro more comfy because i dont like the feeling of wet pads on my ears and thats what happens with long term use with the hd600s since it is very hot here in the Philippines. With leather or pleather padded headphones, the sweat factor is fine because it only takes one wipe to dry the pads.
