The New Questyle M15i and M12i

I've also been blown away by M15i performance compared to my other sources including the RME (RME ADI-2/4 Pro SE in my case)! What you need is an OTG USB-C cable. Quick Google search will help with finding options. Ppl in this community has been using cables from ddHiFi (TC05 M2, TC07, and TC09) and iBasso CB18 to name a few. Nice setup you got, by the way!

Thanks for the kind words, as well as for sharing your own feedback on the M15i! Noted as well on having to use an OTG USB-C cable; based on what I've also read, looks like high-wattage data/charging cables don't work with the M15i.

I have a few questions by the way:
  1. Does your M15i's USB-C port have a bit of play? I noticed that mine, when a cable is connected, has (a few mm up-down), similar to other USB-C devices I have. That being said, I also have another USB-C DAC dongle (an iBasso Jr. Macaron) and its USB-C port is much tighter (barely any movement at all when a cable is connected).
  2. There was a time when the stereo imaging of the M15i was reversed (I was doing an A-B of it with my desktop rig when I noticed it). It got fixed when I disconnected the M15i from my laptop. Did you experience something similar as well?
  3. Nice to see that you have an RME ADI 2/4 Pro! What are your thoughts on its amp section, particularly the 4.4mm balanced out? I'd like to simplify my desktop setup to an all-in-one DAC/amp someday and the RME ADI 2/4 Pro is among the options I'm considering. Would you say it's powerful enough to drive planar magnetic headphones to meet your sound expectations (saw in your signature that you also own a DCA E3).
Thanks again!

1. There is definitely a bit of play on my unit but I personally don't see this as an issue. From what I've read/heard on Head-Fi Questyle M15 seem to have pretty excellent build quality and reliability.
2. No stereo imaging issues on mine. Were you able to repeat/recreate this error? Happy to test for it if there's a specific behavior you can describe.
3. I LOVE the RME ADI 2/4 Pro. Amp is super clean and plenty powerful, driving my E3 (terminated 4.4) flawlessly. Having said that, E3s are pretty efficient as planars go so it may be a different story with super power hungry planars. Opinions differ on this subject but according to RME engineers (whom you can ask directly on RME forum) this unit is designed to driving literally anything you throw at it - and then some!

Apologies for going off topic here gushing about the RME - this is a Questyle thread afterall. Feel free to PM me if you have more questions about the RME.

Thank you very much for the prompt response!

Re: the reversed stereo imaging, I unfortunately cannot replicate the issue. I was listening to a test track that has distinct L/R elements in the first few seconds and I immediately noticed something was wrong. Hopefully it's just a software issue.

Re: the RME ADI 2/4 Pro, happy to hear that it's powerful enough to drive your E3 flawlessly. I totally understand the affection towards RME products; I have owned my RME ADI-2 DAC FS for more than four (4) years already and I remain enamored of it to this day.

I would also like to apologise for fanboying so much about the RME in this thread; let's get back on track with the amazing M15i!

I wasn't so sold on the m15i until I gave it emi/RFI screening, separate filtered power and a dedicated transport. Now it's got it's place alongside my mojo2 and cayin RU7. It just needed some nurturing to tease out it's best behaviour.
Particularly pleased I got it used as new and the cayin as box opened at half price because the mojo2 is lovely but too much of one flavour and your appreciation dwindles for just how good you've got it 🤗
