So, CS4816 -> WM8740 -> AD797. Classic combo of quality components.
 
Now if they threw in volume control and headphone output and kept it at 800$, they'd have a real competitor.

Yes, they would. But I think they should keep it as a DAC, then develop a hybrid in the future.
