Well what I'm trying to say is that the pads should be plusher like the 595-it's really the ingenious headband that makes the k240s comfortable. No one should ever get scalp-burn or feel them clamp painfully after a long time.

Perhaps, but at $1400 I wouldn't call them underpriced! No headphone over $1000 can ever be called a bargain, the mark up is a heck of a lot I'd think.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the AKG K501. Sure they need a powerful amp to sing (and enhance the bass presence), but so do many other mid- to high-tier phones.

These phones are almost certainly my next buy, unless sweet, demented soul sells me their Grado HP2 for $100!

Panasonic RP-HJE50. For $20 or so, they bear some great sound quality, albeit not the best build quality.

As much as I like its soundstage and mids, I didn't nominate the K501, (and the HD600 or HD650 for that matter) due to the amplifier requirements... which IMHO is at least an SR71, M^3, Gilmore lite, all ~$350 amps. But thats my oppinion

Under amped they tend to lack dynamics... IMHO. Compared to others which can sound superb from a well made cmoy.

My Numark PHX Pro's cost me $47. I think they're $55 at etronics. With 3 nicely made cables(right angle 1/8" to straight1/8") each with a screw on 1/4" adapter plus velour and leather style pads(screw on) and a fake leather case you get a lot for the money. Being mostly black except for the back of the driver housing they look real good too!

After 24 hours of burn in they beat the sr60's with better detail and soundstage while requiring a few less notches of volume(same impendance as Grado). They seem as quick as the Grado's so they are also a fun sounding phone but more accurate. A great deal for around $60 shipped! Definitley underpriced as many places still charge $99 or $109 for them.

Etymotic 4 P or S

High resolution of the source - tells it like it is - little coloration.

Closest to the SA 5000, which is the best dynamic HP for under $2000
