Nano2G, ibasso T2, Minibox-E+ and Ipod4G.

I agree that Minibox-E+ is a very good match with ER4P, but I wonder if it can be called 'very small'...

Yes, the T2 goes quite a while on one charge, is very small and the sound is ok. It also looks very nice.

T2 spec sheet says that it has "Gain control function for headphone impedance matching; low gain setting is great for the very sensitive in ear monitors". Does that mean that I can plug the ER-4P straight into T2 without a P-to-S conversion cable? In other words, is this "gain control function" equivalent to the PtoS switch in Minibox E+ which saves one the extra $45 that would be spent on the P-to-S cable?

No, the T2 is just saying how you can configure it so you can have more control on the volume with IEMs in general, sine they have low impedance and thus are sensitive to pick up hissing and/or prone to becoming very loud in a short amount of turning the volume knob.

I'd suggest Headsix. It might not be the smallest, but with consideration of built quality, sound quality and size, It'll be a very good deal.
I just bought one from Meier, Jan charge me only $185 with shipping to Taiwan.

Also, he is very responsive. My emails got reply almost instantly
(a little exaggeration wouldn't hurt ^_^)
There is also the consideration that part of you payment would be sponsoring Head-fi, so you got two birds with one stone XD.

Minibox e+. It fits in the pocket of your jacket and the bass boost is good for the Etys.

I just ordered the ER-4P too and should be arriving soon, but am already looking forward LOL.

But I looked at it a little differently. My choices are between iBasso T1/T2 and the APS cable.

The APS cable is said to warm the sound and give it more bottom end and make it sounds fun. I can't really imagine how would an Ety sound fun but it really intrigues me.

As you probably already know, hooking up ER-4P to an amp would impart the sound signature of the amp, which potentially also means fuller sound and more bottom end. Correct me if I am wrong, it seems that the T1 is more neutral than the T2 which is warmer and bassier.

Currently (this always change) the amps on my list were only T1 and T2. I am using it with Sony NWZ-A816 so the "thin bar" form factor appeal to me a lot and very similar to the Sony's form factor, and anything larger would look rather lopsided IMO.

The Meier Headsix is built like a tank and sounds great. The 9 volt battery lasts 100+ hours and you can use it with an external plug if you want. Skylab rated it as number 6 amongst portable amplifiers with the ones above it costing a lot more. You can get one used in the for sale forums for approx 150.00

Whoa, thread necromancy!

I ended up buying one of the earlier Headphonia amps, which is not exactly small, but since it's warming up I'm wearing more dresses (and no jacket) and they don't always have usable pockets.

It's actually doing desktop duty right now until I buy a small-footprint desktop amp. I still intend to build a tricked out DIY amp for primary listening (was thinking SOHA but I might just make a 2-channel beta-22 instead), but that's going to have to wait until at least when my tax rebate comes in.

How about the Tomahawk? Insane battery life at over 400+hrs from 2AAA batteries and a small footprint just a hair smaller than the new 3G nanos. Some are popping up in the FS section at about $200-235. Nice warm sound, I dunno with the Ety's but with the Shure E500, Grado225 and AT ESW9, it is more than enuff to power these cans on the hi-gain. Good Luck!

If I'm wrong I'm sorry.

It's smaller than other things that have been suggested here (such as the Minibox E and the Headsix.)

I'd have gone with the T2. It's small enough that it doesn't really add much size to whatever you have it on. It sounds nice with the ER-4Ps as well.

That said, I'd keep a look out for a SuperMicro or SuperMini. The SuperMini is great, especially with the built in PtoS adapter and bass boost. I know Xin was a fan of the ER-4Ps himself, so he probably used them to test the amps out.

The supermini is smaller than the tomahawk, and around the same price $200.

The supermicro retails for around $150 - but inflated in cost because of demand. However, I find the shape pretty awkward. It is thick and makes for an awkward attachment to players IMO. However, the mini is thinner and sits nicely with some DAPs.
