The best hip-hop artists don't have to result to endless profanity and/or offensiveness to get the point across. Strong language can be used similar to instrumental dynamics: To hit that high point and then decrescendo from there. If it's "******" after "******", then it's no better than a heavy metal band with no dynamics. There's a good reason why The Roots, Saul Williams, and Blackalicious are often cited as being some of the best hip-hop artists on the planet. |
