Does anyone know which OEM Monoprice sources these drivers from? I highly doubt they make them in house, and the variance issue could be a very real one as I think more about it.

I respectfully disagree. I feel that the Awei ES800 is much better than the Monoprice IEMs. They have balanced sound, an aluminum build, flat cable, and actually isolate well.
While the Monoprice IEMs are more airy, I much prefer the ES800.

i have comapred the awei with the 8320 and 9396   and i have not listened to my awei since i have compared them,,,   if i want more bass then i yuse the 9396,, if i want to enjoy the music then i listen to my 8320...

For the nozzle size of the Monoprice IEMs, what model of Meelec tips will fit in?

The following use the same size Comply tips, and should work-AF12, AF9-BK, CX21P, M11, M16-MT, M21, M31, M9, N8, N9, R1, R12, SP51, SX-31.
So any Me-Elec tips for those models *should* work with the Monoprices.

you are really steering me hard towards the 9396...
debating on whether i should get a pair of white 8320s or the 9396.
the regular 8320 with cloth cord are driving me up the wall with cord noise. and the fitment isnt amazing

is the black version more soft as material? The original silver one is very hard and uncomfortable

The 9927 is the black model and has a softer rubberized shell.

The short answer, no. They are more along the lines of your regular bass heavy earbuds. V shaped sound signature

Sent from my Galaxy S Relay

yep..  but i prefer the sound of the 9396 over others i have heard ....   sound Q goes to the 8320's but if i want to listen to bass and im not concerned with quality AS MUCH (dont want it to sound like crap either)  then i would remove the  molds from the 8320 and put on the 9396....

the 9396 offer a better seal because they are sealed.. unlike the 8320 which has vents on the outside ,,  to my ears the 9396 do sound good to me..

would you recommend i buy a pair of 9396 or white 8320s?
ive been using the regular 8320s on the go, and they arent exactly friendly when it comes to movement. easily tangled and cord noise galore. they also dont isolate as well as i like, because deep insertion is tricky. i was thinking the new finish of the white ones would help make the 8320s more travel freindly.
i understand the 8320s sound the best, but is the 9396 comparable?
or should i stick to what i know or try something new? i just dont want the 9396s to sound like crap

for on the go... they are cool.. isolation is very good like any other small IEM...  and to me the sound is good enough to enjoy all genres ,,,  i still prefer my 8320 for critical listening though but for just all out fun and walking around or working then my choice would be the 9396, i have compared the 9396 to others i have but i prefer the 9396,, just my opinion...   i have had both for months now and they are the only ones i keep in my travel case

3.5mm to ipod dock

9396 with mold
all in a convinient pelican case

I bought some of the 9927's

And I must say, they're good for ~$10 (after shipping) but they're not amazing compared to something that's $40+. They did generate a surprising amount of distortion free sub-bass. Beyond that trick, they were middle-of-the-road.

Also, they were uncomfortable in my ear, popped out easily, and the cord was easily tangled.

I look at it this way: Why get yourself good throw-away IEMs that you'll never use once you get audiophile IEMs. Just make your Shure 215s or GR07's $10 bucks cheaper by not buying these.

Phone makers should fix the ergonomics on these things and bundle them with devices. That's a good way to get them in people's ears...
