Maybe that's why the bass increase, when using the out-tubed Shure foam. Yesterday I listened the IEM with them, and there was no boominess, dirtiness this time.

i prefer no tape....   my newer molds i cut away just enough silicone to expose that hole and the bass seems to be more pleasant than my molds that cover the hole..    personal preference i guess...

So after all the hype is the general consensus now that these phones aren't really that special? Better than the she5580 in terms of soundstage but not much else (unless you really hate bass)? It doesn't fill me with confidence that most recent posts are about mods and struggles getting a good seal.
 
I just saw these on amazon for £5 and while that's not much, I don't need another pair of headphones I'll never use. Is anyone still really in love with these?

I think the hype is justified. I think they deliver what DSNUTS had promised us. However, these IEMS are very difficult to fit for many. That is the reasoning for varying opinion. Luckily they fit me fine and I am enjoying them immensely. Detailed with a very good soundstage. I would pay $30 dollars for these and still think they are a bargain. The frequency response graph is quite impressive as well. I have over a dozen pair of headphones and am reaching for these while my other  more expensive pairs are collecting dust.

They really do get better with time. Now that I have 70+ hours on them they sound much more settled.

Ended up liking the stock tips of all the ones I've rolled so far, but one size larger than I normally wear. It's a shallow insertion and is oddly comfortable enough. Going to try some sennheiser double flange when my size gets in stock again.

I would pay 30 as well and feel like it was a bargain. If you have $100 IEMs with rave reviews, then these won't be better, but they have a solid place in the 30-50 bracket.

People are modding these because they like them and they are so cheap. They are great to try DIY projects on. I've had mine for about 6 months and listen to them frequently.

Are there any mods to make them less tangle prone? I'm seriously considering buying a pair of mini magnets and glueing them on the back so at least the earpieces don't get caught on the cord as much (zune headphones had that great feature; wish more companies used that idea)
I use headphones walking to and from class so I wrap these up (twist and countertwist to prevent kinks) and shove them in my pocket.
These things take a lot of time to untangle so any tips or tricks would be great.

Anyone have thoughts on the audio quality of these compared to the Koss Kcs75?  I have bought the Koss and it should be arriving tomorrow.  But I stumbled across the Monoprice IEM and it has got me wondering about the sound quality in comparison. 
 
I know they are different styles but I am curious if anyone owns both and has an opinion in regards to which they enjoy more as portable way of listening to music.

The one on the left side is about 70% effective, it is from a headset. The other one on the right side is a little better (85%). It's from another IEM.

Greatly. Although it will take some time to get used to. I was suffering from mid ear impactions when inserting deeply with a bi-flange for a couple weeks, so I would dread to think what tri-flanges would do... not sure why, it stopped hurting after a while. I'm thinking about getting checked out by an ENT specialist to make sure my ears are ok and that this setup isn't damaging them.
Start small and work your way up.

Well, I have the PortaPros which have a similar SQ to the KCS75.
 
I would say the KCS75 is VERY different in terms of sound. 
 
The Koss would be more airy and bassy.  The Monoprice is more clear and precise.

have u considered modding the tips with a silicone mix...  basically creating a perfect mold of ur ear ,,  they will never fall out and there is no need for adjusting,,, perfect fit everytime...  u can make the mold big or small

I use the stock tips, but one size larger than I usually wear. They stay in snug, sound better, and for me don't seem to add much discomfort at all.
