The Lambert "Play It By Ear" Headphone Amplifier - (DG Review) + Impressions Thread

  Heya

I purchased Lambert Play it by Ear recently and I am noticing loud pop when switching on/off and headphones are plugged in. Is it normal behaviour ? I suppose there is DC current leakage which as known to me can damage Headphone driver.

Here are videos I made : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdydfcP9XHo

Can anybody check with their headphones if you got same thing ?

I hope my unit is not damaged.

This is my second Lambert. Both unit's cause(d) my headphone's to pop like this.

This seem to be normal. I'm used to turn this on before I plug my headphones... A bit inconvenient, I guess, however I constantly switch my headphones for different type of music, so in my case that's not too much to do

I have brought my PIBE from the dead because my Lyr2's right channel died. Doing some left/right channel testing made me realise that my PIBE has the channels opposite so I had to reverse my cable connections. Using my old Q701, I forgot how this 'small' amp sounded. It sounds very good that it is a shame I have kept it unused for so long. It really sounds so good that even my bass anemic Q701 felt the bottom end they needed. Very very good amp indeed!

I see there are no new post's since March 2017. My Lambert is still going strong. It's my back up amp for when my Dna Stratus needs shop time. That rarely ever happens of course, but the Lambert stands at the ready. It's an amazing little amp.

Gain is way too strong...gets too loud too fast.

True, it does get loud but I have room to play with. Have you tried a different tube? I ask because I test 6n1p's for my Stratus and have found no two tubes are alike. Just throwing it out there for what it's worth.

My son has been using my PIBE since acquiring Glenn OTL amp. It pairs really well with AKG Q701. And yes, it has quite high gain. I am using Schiit Sys as preamp.
