The JVC HA-S680 - S400's and S500's big brother is here!

What is the difference between these and the HA-S660? I can pick them up for cheap.

So these were designed for sale outside of Japan. They use a carbon compound diaphragm instead of the carbon nanotube diaphragm inside of the HA-S680. It still has the bass port and looks like it is otherwise the same design. If anyone knows how the sound compares to the HA-S400/S500 or HA-S680 I would appreciate any comments.

Stay away from HA-S660, they are way way worse than HA-S680!

I got these on Christmas Eve, waaaay earlier than I expected! They sound great, even non-broken in. I really like my S500's, and I think these sound much better. I must have semi-small ears, for me these are over-ears.

They don't "feel" as rugged as the UE6000, mainly because they weigh like 1/10 as much as the UE (those are heavy lol). But they seem to be pretty well made. Definitely worth the $70 to me!

Glad to hear!

Please burn them as described in http://www.head-fi.org/t/690493/the-jvc-ha-s680-s400s-and-s500s-big-brother-is-here/45#post_10010223 and post your impressions!

Nice find.  They are still crazy cheap.... and I can find them at overstock.com and amazon.  Hopefully they are the same.  Has anyone ordered a pair yet?

Don't even think about it, they are not in the same league as HA-S680!

You've tried them?? I've read bad things about the HA-S600....but I can't find any info on the HA-S660...esp since even the JVC site lists them as new.

Well..As much as I blasted them drivers. I can't get over how wonky the sound is on the HA-S660. I think it is actually worse than the HA-S600. Which is very surprising to me. I don't know who can design this and listen to it thinking it has a good sound quality.. Don't know if it was just me but I can swear the bass got stronger with an overnight burn in. It is too boosted for having smaller closed in cups.

I don't mind big bass but I do when that is what your hearing on even bass light tunes.. Lol. The mids are easily overtaken. What mids there are. The sound is just terrible. With the Panas coming my way I am gonna call this one a loss and see if I can get a RMA. It is too bad as they they actually are built and look nicer than the older HA-S600.

Sound wise. These come dangerously close to the worst JVC headphones I have ever owned. The HA-S700. As dark as the HA-S660 sounds. Going off of memory at least the HA-S660 has treble. The HA-S700 had none to speak of.. The darkest dankiest sound I have ever heard..

At least we mostly get good stuff here on the discovery thread. Mostly. Lol.

Any chance of you doing a comparison between the S500s and S680s?

How's the sizing of the S680 ? I have Teac CT-H02 and they currently are too big for my head. Can the JVC accomodate smaller head than the Teac/Tascam rig?

S680 is definitely smaller than CT-H02, so you should be fine.

Got the customs letter from ParcelForce on Friday, paid the £21 in charges and arranged delivery for Monday. Cannot wait now to have a listen to my new HA-S680

Could have had them delivered today but that would have been an extra £12 for Saturday delivery, and I aint paying that.
