I used to think that these things sounded good...Ha. Well now I use them to make me feel good about myself for buying new headphones.

Like for instince, For the er-6is, I was listening to them for about an hour and a half, when my brother comes up to me and says, "Why would you buy those, they barley sound better than these,(ipod stock buds)."
So just because I couldnt remember how they sounded, I tried them, and MMMMMMMMAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN NNNNNNNNNNNNN....Those things sound like a cell phone ringer with someone covering up the sound. I was so glad I bought the 6is, and was actually happy I listened to those stock buds. They made me feel so happy about purchasing the 6is. Thanks Ipod Stock Buds, I will always keep you to compare to my new headphones, just to see how much better they sound.

Did you slap the piss out of your brother and knock some of that wax out of his ears?

I find that ususally works when you are talking to those afflicted with audio incompetency. Its a very frightening disease.

For example, I was at Quiznos today getting a delicious Chicken Milano sandwich. I just happened to have my new UM2's in my ears and the guy behind the counter say "Oh, those are some cool looking headphones, what are they?" I proceeded to tell him and he just blows me away with this:

"Oh yeah, well I'm a true audiophile ( he actually said that ).......so I don't ever settle for anything but the best. I'm sure those sound decent, but I know they're just plain crap compared to my Bose QC2's."

I just gagged and vowed never to go to that Quizno's again.

Oh Man DJ, that's horrid...it might be a reason to boycott *all* Quiznos (well, besides their overpriced subs)

I officially now vow to never go to a Quizno's again, instead going to Jimmy John's or Panera Bread. That quote just summed up the worst quality of Bose and leads to the question of how so many people with low audio knowledge and big egos can congregate so about a headphone

HAHA Why would he say that about your headphones, he hasnt even heard them...that gets me mad when someone just goes out and tells you their oppinion about what you have.
The same thing happened to me too. I was at circuit city and was looking at the tvs. I had my er-6is on, and this guy came in with some sony 71s, and said "Hey are those the white 71s? I cant find them anywhere." The 6is look nothing like them, so he must've been blind. I said "No These are Etymotic er-6is, I like them alot better." Then he was like, "Oh well you must have been thinking of something else because these are $50 headphones and sound awsome." so I said, "These are $150 headphones." And then he said, "What, No Way, who would pay $150 for headphones?" I said "No lots of people pay over 500 bucks for headphones." He just stared at me and said, "Yea right! You should try these sonys sometime though, they're awsome."

People are so ignorant it's just terrible. I wish I had some people like that in my area to slap around.

I see people with sony streetstyles, and then they tell me that I have some weird looking headphones (PX200's). Then when they try them, It goes from a smile to a huge frown, and then they stare at their Streetstyles like if they were saying...

Why the hell did I buy these?

And some do say it, but with much more vulgarity.

A guilty pleasure indeed, but I love threads like this. Keep the anecdotes coming! I feel like such a snob when we clown on Bosers and stockbudders, but it sure is fun! It makes you want to grab them, say "Close your eyes. Listen to this...now listen to this."

I also love the Bose kiosks at airports and malls. My take on that sales pitch is that they ARE trying to sell a sort of prepackaged audiophile identity, almost like, "take my word for it -- if you were an audiophile, you'd know that all audiophiles prefer Bose!"

...but there's poser brands with lots of self-styled "premium" marketing in all hobbies, that enthusiasts make fun of (and secretly own

Have to confess that I am currently using the iPod buds since I'm in transition from the 'carry-an-amp-around' phase to 'straight-out-of-the-headphone-jack' phase...

Getting some ER-4P's are high on my headphone to-do list... or maybe mini terminated Blackdragon recabled Qualia > iPod for portable like Bangraman.

"Check out my _____ (insert your 'fav' Bose headphones here), they are the best"
"Wow, that's awesome, but check these Qualia out"
