the goats have a genetic disorder that causes their muscles to lock up when they are startled.

I did some more research on them, and they were actually used as baits for sheep herders. They would be taken along with the sheep and if a wolf would attack, the goats would freeze and the sheeps get away.

They are also smaller then normal goats. I dont know why they act the way they do. If guess they'd be easy pickin's in the wild.

Perhaps a bit... But is it any more cruel than breeding and engineering animals until they are more or less immoble meat carriers? Probably not.

Most things we do with animals have some element of cruelty.

Humans do much worse things to animals then that!
This is only taking advantage of the goats fainting problem.
At least there not using cattle prods!

Yeah, exactly. I'm reminded of a headline some years back when the UK was dealing with BSE: "Tens of Thousands of Cattle Facing Slaughter." As though they were going to be released into the wild otherwise.
