The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

Thoughts and ramblings, mostly directed at Ibasso:

Firmware:
1) If no new files have been added, skip the scanning bit of the startup.
2) In the "Albums" view, PLEASE sort by "Album artist" and not "Artists". This should solve the issue with compilation albums showing up multiple times as individual albums.
3) In the screen off options, please add "Don't turn off while charging"
4) It would be nice if the DX50 would remember where I left when it turned off.
5) I love the look of the volume dial when turning the volume up and down
6) Much, much better color choices than on the DX100.
7) Why oh why are the on-screen buttons even there? Seriously, they make no sense with the hardware buttons right below the screen

Hardware:
1) I love those buttons. They feel just perfect. I already prefer the UI of the DX50 to that of the DX100.
2) Overall build quality is nice. Not as seamlessly sturdy as the DX100, but very nice. Except...
3) The headphone jack is insanely tight! Plugging in my 3.5mm Viablue, I was afraid I'd break something!
4) This thing is just the right size. Fits perfectly in my hands.
5) More capacity, please. Either add a 64gb option or an extra microSD slot. Maybe for DX50 v2

Ordered through the Mong Kok DMA in Hong Kong for HK$1800 or USD$232. Looking forward to receiving it :)

I am absolutely in love with the size and UI of the DX50:

Now compare this to the DX100:

Yes, the DX50's screen really IS that much better than the one on the DX100.

Am I the only one around here that sorta likes the current firmware? Sure, there's a few bugs, but it's heaps and bounds better than this thread had lead me to expect.

dx50 + c5 makes the soundstage much larger and a little more crisp sounding than my ipod3g + c5 + um2. Mids are slighly (just slightly) less in the face feeling as well.
instruments sounds more lifelike IMO <-- (personally, dont take my word for it, if it doesnt)

I do , I have about 60 hours on the DX50 and still haven't updated.  I'll update when the coax out is totally straight, that's a major feature for me.

Thanks for presenting the idea of a DX50, very much appreciated.

Value wise it is out of the world. (IMO)

You live up to your name.

After 4 hours of listening: (Please adjust for New Toy Syndrome)

DX100 has better (wider) soundstage.
Piano sounds better on the DX100 than on the DX50
DX100 has 64gb of onboard storage, the DX50 has 8gb

I added a $20 Viablue connector to my $149 cable feeding my $1300 ciems and even I can't think of a way to justify the $600 jump from the DX50 to the DX100 if you use (c)iems or easily driven portable headphones.

Some of us experienced the DX100 firmwares...These young whipper snappers have no idea how good they've got it

Spot on! DX50 is already doing better than the DX100 did with early firmwares. If they improve the DX50 as much as they improved the DX100, we'll have one hell of a device on our hands!
