The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

Does anyone have an opinion on the ATH-IM50?

Reviews were pointing towards a bass forward and sparkling treble v-shape, but not overpowering

I have the ATH-M5O and they do sound great and I would agree that they are a little v-shaped with the dx-50. I however think M100s sound even better with the 50!

Oops did not see the I so disregard that.

I had the VSD1s and they sounded great but I kept going back to Mr GR07be which are awesome and I've had them for over 11/2 years. They to sound great with the DX50 but I usually use them with my iPod nano.

Just to clarify, you have the VSD1 not the VSD1S IEMs right?  How are the GR07be IEMs better than the VSD1?  Are the GR07be worth more than double the price?  I'm not looking for something bassy, hence why I went with the VSD1S.  Just got my Q701s in the mail today, and I love how they sound so far.  If the VSD1S can sound somewhat similar to the Q701s, I'll be happy.

I might be considering in getting a DX50 (if I get the money) for my HD598s for home use, and I suppose it should have enough power?

Also, is there a purpose in getting an DAC/Amp like the C5D or something similar to pair with the DX50?

the c5d would be a downgrade on all accounts

diminishing returns, aka the performance does not equal the money spent

I can't speak to using a C5D (there's a thread here on that device) but the C5 is a wonderful headphone amp and makes the DX50 sing.  It's  $185, and it's the same size as the DX50.  $185 + $235 would be the cost for the two, so $420.  A new DX90 is $419.  Is it as good or better?  Read the threads.

A DX90 may work as a DAC on your system or not (no Macs, for instance, and the drivers can be an issue).  Read the threads re that as well.  A C5D is more than a C5 ($235), so a DX50 and a C5D would be $470.  Does the DAC of that work on all systems?  I believe so, but read the threads here to be sure.

Lots of choices, bang for your buck.

Thank You. I'll start with the DX50 and see what happens from there. I'm not in the habit of buying the top of the line model without listening to the lower priced one. Wished that worked out for me in other hobiies but let see where it goes from here. Thanks again!

If you take my advise - to unleash the DX50 full potential once you get it - try the "Sound Unlock" firmware with "flac only" option, extended "irr bandwidth", equalizer off, slow roll-off digital filter and the amplifier set to mid gain. This is a good starting point to check if you like its sonic performance.

I agree.  Sound Unlocked is money. Dmitry did a great job tweaking it.

I'm just confused on if the DX50 is paired with a DAC/Amp, then the internal ones will be bypassed, then doesn't it kind of make buying the DX50 meaningless?

Also, what good amp pairings are there with the DX50?

  Sound Unlocked: https://github.com/dm1try/dx50_sound_unlocked/blob/master/README.md

Took another pic in normal daylight:

edit: NB! Those who don`t know - to select lossless only or irr off/on - You must switch DX50 to LOCK and then turn it on while LOCK is ON. After
selecting desired options just turn LOCK OFF.

Nice stand

Guys, new update!

Changes 1.3.0

  1. New sound mode "Flac only"(the best SQ).
  2. Mango displays only supported formats for selected sound mode.

Direct download - https://github.com/dm1try/dx50_sound_unlocked/blob/master/releases/dx50_sound_unlocked_1.3.0.7z

PS. I postponed "change settings without rebooting a player" feature for the next release. It has several bugs, right now. sorry have no time :frowning2:

Nice!! Can't wait to try it out! I'm still on the pure unlocked 1.1 haha. Finding it to sound the best. Thanks for your time and contributions! : )

Just installed SUv1.3.0.  I have the FLAC option enabled with IRR enabled, and so far everything sounds pretty good, but the IEMs I'm listening with aren't exactly the best.  Will be able to test a little better with different sets of headphones when I get home tonight.

Anyone tried using the latest Nexus 7 USB Rom with the DX50?

http://mehrvarz.github.io/nexus-7-usbrom/
Supported USB audio devices
These are just some of the supported USB DAC's: CM106-F, FiiO E07 + E10 + E17, Hifimediy Sabre, VIA USB Audio Dongle, Behringer UFO202 + UCA202 + UCA222, Syba SD-CM-UAUD, Miditech Audioface2 (PCM 2902), FujitsuSiemens PortReplicator (CM 108), Aune T1 (TE7022), Turtle Beach Micro II, BERESFORD Caiman, Teralink x2, Headroom Total Bithead, Fostex PC-100USB.
Basically all standard USB audio devices should work.
Problems have been reported only with TAS1020B based DAC's.

The DX50 is not listed, but I'm trying to find a way to use it as a DAC since Ibasso is still awaiting for certification of its drivers from MSFT.

Ok, I updated the github description :) Does it sound different to SU1.2.4 ? Thx.
