The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

I have a question that I'm sure one of you super clever chaps will help with.

Finding mains powered external HD's is becoming more and more tricky, so can a solution to the OTG HD issue be thus....

A HD that is powered from USB via a laptop, using a second USB on the HD (either standard or micro) to feed the DX50 music?

And if so, can anyone recommend one? (Or a decent mains powered 1 TB drive?)

Thanks.

I have used this company in the past for storage of my images. The cases have always held up, no failures after a few years and they can plug into an adapter.

Buy yourself a powered USB to HD Sata enclosure (I have one that has a 12 v dc wall power supply) and plug an internal 2TB Sata hard drive in it (enclosure costs around 30$ and an internal Sata HD might run around 100$, then using a USB the OTG cable, plug it into the DX50 and you got yourself what you need.

Gapless will be fixed in the 1.2.7 update that'll be out in a couple of days

Will they fix the 192/24 coaxial output, do you know?

I have a 750gb Transcend Storejet for a few years now. It has one cable for transferring data and a second cable for optional USB power. The current model is 1TB and is a little more than $70. It is a very well made, fast, small USB 3.0 device, and quite rugged. I mostly use it for manually transferring data from my PC to my media playback device NAS.

I assume you are going to power the drive externally and not from the DX50 correct?

Wasn't that fixed in one of the very first FW updates?

Oh you are correct - the issue is not caused by the Dx50 but my Leckerton 6s mkIi which has a limitation to 96 rather than 192.

Thanks

Have you done any tests regarding the effects on DX50's battery life using this kind of setup?

I use the DX50 in this fashion when I am home and I did not clock the DX50 battery, I am too busy listening to music however it logically makes sense that the power it uses is minimal because it does not spend time powering the external drive. If you go back through the timeline, I believe someone tried a drive requiring USB power. I don't recall the outcome.

Thanks for the info.

I'm seriously considering doing something in that vein in the future. I desperately need 500GB to fit my flac collection!!

I take it back, just tried it again and now it's not reading my drive

I switched with a USB key (64GB) and it's fine. Gonna have to do some debugging.

Edit: Feeeeew working now, thank god my load of music files is safe
