The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

I thought I'd throw in my 2c on the iBasso.

I've been travelling with an iPod, Galaxy Note 2, and then 3 with the Fiio E07k, and I really wanted a better standalone DAC. I had toyed around with my mate's Cowon and the Fiio X3 - but hands down the DX50 beats it. Bought it, and have had it since Christmas - and I could not have been any happier with it.

I use the DX50 mainly for when i commute (45 minutes each way), and when I travel (fiancee lives 4 hours flight away). Mine's the 13th batch apparently.

It's been paired up with my DT990 pro, Bose QC15, ATHM50, and my westone UM3.

The winning combo is still the DX50 and UM3. Great soundstage, warm, and that clarity! It does an okay job with the DT990, but doesn't do it for commuting. With plane rides, or even working at the cafe, the QC15 and the DX50 is just simply amazing.

I almost bought the X3 second hand off my friend, but I'm glad that I got the DX50 instead.

There are some 'buggy' issues - like audio file name.... folder structures, and even the delay you get from pushing the buttons to get it to go 'next song'. Still, it's an awesome piece of hardware, and I'm glad that my FLAC files are getting played the way they should be.

I'm waiting on a set of CIEM to come... and that may just complete my travel rig!

P/S : Because you already use both x3 and DX50 what do you think will be match better with nature CIEM like UM Miracle? I prefer clear, mid focus ( little bit focus) and bright sound signature, so can you please advise me?

Here we go.. first 128GB micro SD announced. Should work in the DX50 theoretically.

Awesome! This should push down prices on 64 gb cards too.

$200 msrp will be a little hard to justify, but Im sure the prices will come down quickly. It will probably make the 128gb full size SD's come down in price too. $20 for the adapter + ~$70 (assuming a $20 price decrease) for a 128gb full sd hidden inside the silicone case sounds more reasonable in the near term, but in a couple-few months Ill definitely get a 128 mSD when the price comes down a bit.

I don't see the 128gb cards available yet. I was hoping they would be the faster card, like the latest generation of the 64gb cards, which can do 80mb.

I've noticed something weird with the DX50's media scanning screen. If you touch the bar, you can actually make it scroll along that far. Seems like they just borrowed the song playing bar and didn't bother changing its functionality. This doesn't necessarily matter, it's just an odd bug I noticed when my DX50 froze while trying to scan a file.

Find the files on your disk and copy them to DX50 internal or microSD. Album art may be a problem as it might not be stored in the files but in the iTunes meta database

Oh, I see. I suppose it should be okay for me, as the album art doesn't really bother me all that much.

Thanks!

You can also drag and drop directly from the iTunes UI to easily search and select. Art isn't embedded so it usually is a problem unless imported from elsewhere.

Be very cautious, these are not Genuine SD cards. I bought one from eBay at US$22 and indeed it was a counterfeit microSD card (of the 64GB only 4GB was accesable. The remainder of the capacity yields corrupt data)  I was able to get a full refund from Paypal.  Please exercise caution on these eBay sold microSD cards. YMMV

update: I have bought genuine Sandisk 64GB MicroSD cards from Amazon.com

A very quick look at Amazon feedback should show people that the £20 and under 64gb micro cards are fake/corrupt.

Around £28-32 is what a genuine one will cost (and reviews are almost exclusively 5 star).

They're cheap because they are crap.
