The HeadAmp GS-X and GS-X MK2 Thread

What a slow process. You'd think you could get a batch of aluminum and machine it in less than 16 weeks (3 1/2 months).

i could have aluminum in 3 days, machine it, get it polished and anodized, find out it looks like crap, and be out $10k, and have to start over after 3-4 months into it. for years that's what i did and i never had issues. its only in the past 1-2 years the quality has become a major problem

Although I'm very sure Justin would never do this, I think one way to build the GS-X and BHSE more quickly, would be for him to just build them any old how, without quality and anything resembling class. How many would sooner him do that ?

Getting highest grade materials or select batch quality, cherry picked or what ever you might call it from something that is produced on an industrial scale at industrial grade - like aluminum - most likely will a be a pain in the lower back area. This will be even more difficult when you are only ordering super low quantities. And on an industrial scale anything less than a full truckload is peanuts.

Pushing the limits and reaching for the top in any area, will make things in supply chain seriously difficult. Either it will take a lot of time due to being highly selective or prices will have to rise to a level that is simply prohibitive.

I prefer to wait until Justin has what he needs, in the quality he's willing to work with, rather than the latter.

a very large aluminum company made me a one-time offer; they would sell me their premium aluminum, but only the first bar that gets extruded from the billet, as this has the best quality for my application. They would then store the rest of the aluminum in their depot as standard grade material. This would require them making about 10,000lb for my 1,000lb order. It seemed they were interested in my application and were willing to attempt this even though i was 0.0001% of their sales. In the end i declined because it wasn't a long term solution

[...] the end of the current batch being built, pending cancellations is mid-october.

Reading back through the thread - hope Justin doesn't mean that the current batch being built (the 2013 batch) is due mid-october?

Hi Justin. Are they the 2013 batch, or the 2014 batch? Any estimate on my order placed last November?

Great news - thanks for the update, Justin. I noticed you said on the BHSE forum that you wait for all the panels to come in before assembly and shipping. Is that still the case for the GS-X? That is, are you going to wait for the silver panels before finishing the black and red and the rest of the panels you have on hand?
