Seems like a lot of Grado threads popping up lately, as wel as a lot of WTB threads for grados in the FS/FT forum. Do we have another flavor of the month on our hands?

As I listen to other fones lately, what Grado does best more than any other fones is its soul provoking ability. Call it a distortion, coloration or euphony, I don't care. They don't necessarily clear all the audiophile check list and can easily go over the top. But They figured out, somehow, the way to tug people's heart.

They are the all-time underdog of fones and stood a test of time.

Altho they are not for everyones' cup of tea, I think it's great more people get to try out Grado fones. They are truely different from others. and to me, they sound most 'honest'.

I'm pretty sure that the Grado RS-1 is a new flavor of the month. The previous one or two months was CD3K. Four or Five months ago was AT cans and before that was Senn HD-600 w/ cable upgrades. The DT-880 was also a flavor of the month just b/f the CD3K.

Don't forget Eggo's (of which 90% have been put back into circulation via FS/FT).

Looks like it's up to me to carry the Grato can then

I find most Gratos (which I have owned, not auditioned) not 'honest' at all... I think they could well be the most 'fake' premium headphones on the market. This is from a W2002 owner which is pretty fake too. But too much 'honesty' can get a little boring with most recordings. I just think some Gratos push that edge a bit too far in general... They become almost DJ phones for those who are ashamed to be seen with DJ phones. The RS-1 is I think one of the most guilty ones with a very dynamic, bordering on uncontrolled performance with compromises in other areas which cheapens them to a degree.

In general the premium Gratos are the yang to the HD600's yin. It may explain the perennial longevity of these.

Would I buy another Grato? No, except for the HP series maybe. Would I recommend another Grato? Certainly... But my wholehearted recommendations end at the SR80.

HI: The sr 80 is indeed a great can. But once you here the 225 its good buy to the 80. Now for a great sume of money it seems to be the RS1. Since I never heard the RS1 we will see if its all it is said to be. But I do know for sure that I could be very happy with the sr 225.

Not really. It's just that many people are discovering the best in headphone sound with Grado and dumping crap companies that have no business making headphones, like Audio-Technica and Sony.

Still relatively new here, but it's been fun to watch the D66's and CD3000's changes.

Still waiting for the HP170's to take off.

How long does it take to complete a circle and hold the flavor title again? Is this a sign of stagnation... and worse illness?

Well the rs-1's do a lot of things wrong so this should pass..

Biggie.
