Yes for sure. The early iPods had a mechanical scroll wheel but they were not as accurate and tended to break down more easily so they went to the touch wheel. I owned 3 ipod classics at one time and they were always very reliable. I don't think there is any question the touch wheel is superior to the mechanical wheel.

Even better than the X3ii wheel?

Definitely! Have you ever owned a click wheel iPod? The touch wheel is far superior to that of the mechanical scroll wheel used in the X1, X3II and X5II. I don't think anyone would disagree with that. It was the one thing that was holding back the X1 & X3II. I consider the X1 superior to the Ipod classic in every way except the scroll wheel but now with a touch wheel the X1 will be the superior player. Apple doesn't really care one way or the other...they discontinued the classic in 2014 and are probably from what I've heard going to discontinue all iPods. Apple is all about the iPhone and iwatch now.

Like I said, you can get programs for iOS and OS X to play FLAC. So this "not useful" is rubbish.

It's not convenient when you have a mac and buy Alac iTunes to convert it to flac.  The difference in size between the Flac and Alac isn't substantial enough for many to care.

It's really not necessary.

Like Holypal said if the X1 supports 24/192 ALAC, the X1II probably will too so it's not an issue.

of course it will supports 24/192 flac and other formats
