Is there a way to fastforward a track when the screen is off?
Holding the 'next' button does not seem to work with screen off.

Yes definitely. The X3 does sound warmer and it is more powerful plus I prefer the buttons over the scroll wheel. The X1 seems well made and it sounds good but to me the X3 sounds better. The X3 display is better too.

And it costs double too

Cayin C5, Fiio X1 and Havis must be great sounding budget setup... anybody rocking that?

I am currently looking to get my hands on the Cayin. If I can sell my E12 that is :)

Nope, I don't think you can.

Maybe you can stretch that extra distance and press the power button first?

How does the amp on the X1 compare to the FiiO E6 amp? Right now my portable setup is a rockboxed Sansa Clip Zip rubber banded to a FiiO E6 and it's a pretty awesome combo.

While I expect the X1 and Clip DAC are comparable, and the X1 would definitely be a cosmetic upgrade, would the amp be an upgrade or side-grade from the E6? I mostly use my portable setup with KSC75 or IEMs like TDK IE800 which do appreciate the extra power.

Definitely not comparable

You're looking to fast forward through sections of the song and not skip the entire song, correct?  Obviously, there are ways to skip the songs while the screen is off, but I haven't looking into fast forwarding.

Just an OT observation... the idea of "budget" sure changes with the amount of time one is exposed to headfi! When I first joined, my idea of "budget" was $50 for headphones and $50 for a dap, so let's say $100. Now "budget" can easily be considered over $300. Mind you, the $300 budget setup sure sounds a lot better than the $100 budget setup!

Yeah, I cringed at myself when typing that... but I guess its budget setup to many here, and I meant budget in relation to how good sound and usability it provides.

For the majority of developing world its a premium product at 100$ as its a full time music player.
In my country lumia 520 and moto e are the best selling smartphones at about 100$ each.
