The FiiO E10K--all-new DAC and amp stages

How does the new E10K compare to the old E10? Trying to decide whether it's worth an upgade.

I'm experiencing an odd issue with my E10, where it doesn't power both R and L earcups equally at all sound levels. Wondering if the E10K's new chip would not do this?

I'm honestly not a believer of amps influencing soundstage. It depends on source file mixing and headphone drivers position and technical capabilities, I don't think an amp itself can change that. In a blind test I'm not sure anyone will notice the difference, I mean.

This DAC came with 6 rubber feet. I used two of them to cover up the line out and coaxial out ports on the back to keep dust from entering since I'm only going to use it with headphones anyway. OK idea or will this cause overheating issues?

I read it is best to keep 100% volume on OS not to lose dynamic range, and lower the volume via software (es itunes or foobar or spotify). If this is not possible you then lower OS volume obviously, there is no other way

the good thing about e10k is that channel imbalance is there only between 0 and 0.3/0.4 on the volume pot

anyway the background noise on the e10k is awesome, my macbook output has a constant buzz, e10k is totally silent

I'm curious, is it better to have my OS volume lowered to ~80-90% in order to raise the level on the amp side if I currently can only get the dial to 1 or less before it gets too loud with the OS volume at 100%?

It is OK to leave Windows volume at 80-90% if you set the DAC in 24bit mode in the settings. This way you will avoid the channel imbalance at the lower pot levels and will not lose important audio bits.

Uhm, I don't know, in Mavericks/Yosemite the preferences are different and I can't find those options, I'll search on the internet thanks

also searching on the old E10 thread it seems that lowering the volume via software is bad anyway, so... I don't know....
