The FiiO E10K--all-new DAC and amp stages

Last question: Do you think the Fiio E10k Sound Quality is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the ELE DAC which uses PCM2704?

It's like a 15 dollar DAC vs a 75 dollar DAC. Fiio E10k costs 5x more.

If there difference is like night and day, then I'd probably get the Fiio E10k. I'll be using Edifier C2XD speakers during the day and as for music/movie listening at night, it would be the Yamaha EPH-100 earphones.

that thing is a basic dac without an amp? yeah the 10k will probably be a bit better than that in the headphone area. speakers using aux line wont really matter much, it all boils down to the speakers quality also.

It will outperform the ELE DAC by a fair margin, I had the Muse X5 before, the same design as the ELE DAC and the difference is noticiable.
The E10K blows the ELE DAC out of the water... (I had it before)

I totally agree.

I have the honor of being the owner of the first unit here on Spain, had it for 10 days or so and so far I'm very impressed, a magnificent little unit we have here. I wrote a review for some spanish audio pages so if anyone's interested I may post them here.

, some comparison with other dac/amp will also be interesting.
It'd be helpful if it's in english, otherwise i'd use the trusty google translate lol

You can see the review in spanish here http://reproductormp3.net/index.php?topic=21766.0 But as a brief recap I can tell that the DAC performs excelent, I don´t thing that from this point there can be any huge difference or advantage, maybe slight details. As far as the amp goes it can hold quite well with not very power-hungry headphones, with my modded T50RP it struggles a bit in the bass department, on the other hand the HE-400 perform quite well.

I have a follow up to this question. Would the e10k sound better than an ELE DAC paired with a Schiit Magni? I am trying to drive a pair of he-400's and a pair of 7506's. This might sound like a random thing to do, but I've got somewhere around $100 to spend and I think that the first option gets me a better DAC and worse amp whereas the second would get me a better amp with a worse DAC. I had actually ordered a topping tp30, but I canceled it when I realized that the DAC chip was old and the same as the one in the $20 ELE DAC. It seemed stupid to pay $100 for a crappy DAC and a crappy amp, haha. Thanks for your advice.

Fiio E10 was specified for headphones up to 300Ω, whereas the new E10k is only specified up to 150Ω (according to Fiio).
So, do you think this is a big deal?
Would you still recommend E10k for headphones like Beyerdynamic DT-770 / DT-990 / DT-880 which have 250Ω?
And are there any technical reasons why Fiio changed the specifications or was this just a cosmetic change because Fiio realized that the 300Ω for E10 were exaggerated? (I don't want to say that the 300Ω for E10 are actually exaggerated, I only wonder why the new E10k has these much tighter specifications)

Works fine with dt250/250 ohms....power to spare

I dont think the e10k can run 250 ohms units at optimal levels. its only a basic dac/amp for 16-150 (best performance for its level of power output). those power hungry phones need something bigger or more powerful. personaly its also the reason why I dont get phones that are rated 100 omhs up, I dont want to spend so much on amps that cost 3 to 10 times more than headphones just to make them run at their optimal.

I have the DT 770 250 ohm paired with the e10k and it works just fine. Most of the times with low gain, sometimes high gain.

My samsung galaxy S3 can also run DT 770 250 at high volumes.

Thank you for your answers!

What's also confusing is that the E10k has 200mW@32Ω while the older E10 only has 150mW@32Ω. Doesn't this mean that (in theory) E10k could drive more hungry phones than E10? (Which is contradictory to the 150Ω specification for E10k vs 300Ω for E10)
I am just trying to understand why Fiio cropped impedance specification to 150Ω which makes no sense (in my opinion).
