Good part of that might be DAC sig preference.  The 8740 and 9018 are very different beasts.

Wow thanks for taking the time to do this. I always wondered whether I should have gone 4400 instead of 2200.

It's certainly fatter than I thought it would be.

It actually doesn't look that bad in person.  You know how pictures always add 10 pounds...

I realised that the DX90 cuts off the ending of songs for me, anyone else having this problem?

No issues here with that - but I have had issues where a track will finish and just stop playing with 2-3 seconds left. I have to hit the next button multiple times to get it to move.

At first I though it was that, but then I realised the 0.5-1 second of the end of each song was cut off.

That might, perhaps, be a glitch with Gapless playback mode, but don't quote me on that...

Are you browsing by tag or by folder?

Do you have Gapless playback enabled or disabled?

I admit I don't own a DX50/90 but the above are logical questions. Firmware invariably has a bug or 2 in need of ironing-out.

Gapless is disabled on mine. Just browsing the all music category.

It's been like that on DX50. So I'm not surprise it happen still on DX90. Just another reason I use rockbox on DX50 instead of the stock FW.

With the gapless on and off it cuts off the last 2-3 seconds. you can see this on the bar at the bottom when music is playing. On a song that lasted 3:10, it stopped on 3:08 and went to the next song.

Interestingly enough this JUST happened to me. So I have both issues... the one you described and the one I described where the track just stops short and never moves forward.

I've noticed this on mine. So far it hasn't been an issue for me, but perhaps I'll get to a song where the last 2 seconds are kind of important and then it would suck.

Thanks for sharing...

I checked it out, beautiful Jazz, great voice. Talking about Jazz and hi-res, here are free samples going as high as 24/384.

The samples are from designwsound.com. The only thing you need to do is to register for free, they'll give you the downloadable links and it's relatively quick. Amazing couple of samples at different sample frequencies (you can test them on the DX90).

Audiophile Jazz Prologue – Part 03 free samples in high resolution format. We picked Track 06 – “Lush Life” because it is an unique female vocal solo introduction, then follow with acoustic guitar / double bass arrangement. The master files* are either hires PCM wav files or DSD (DIFF) file.

PCM Wordlength: 24Bit
Sample Rate: 96kHz (200.5MB) /192kHz (300.7MB)
DXD: 384kHz (601.4MB)
DSD**: 1Bit/2.82Mhz (184.2MB)

Anyone wanting to samples different frequency the DX90 supports can use the above. Enjoy!
