The Closed-Back Headphone Thread (Plus Comparisons & Reviews)

Oct 7, 2020 at 10:03 AM Post #466 of 6,851
I think Audio-Technica has received some attention here because there's little discussion elsewhere (especially in comparison to, say, Sony).

I also prefer closed-backs. I really listen to music to insulate myself from the world and to absorb myself in the music. In an odd way I hate having music heard beyond my own ears (the impulse to play music loud so that one's neighbours could hear it is repellent to me...). Maybe I'm just deeply anti-social :triportsad:

Glad you're enjoying the Cascades! I should be getting some ZMF verite closed maybe tomorrow, so that will contribute to some "diversification" here
Looking forward to your impressions on the VC. I'm definitely enjoying mine!

Cheers. I'll be sure to post impressions in time, knowing in advance how long it takes for the VC to reach optimal state.... @Malevolent has the head start there :)

This thread is quite active when it comes to discussing Audio-Technica.

I'm glad this thread was started though. There's a special sort-of-feeling when I know that I'm listening to music that no one else can hear and this is a big reason I like closed-back headphones. I currently own the Campfire Audio Cascade and the Sony MDR-1AM2 (for sale!).

The Cascade is VERY engaging. I'm listening to it with no filters (even removed the pre-applied white filters) and I love it.
I agree. I enjoy the Cascade a lot, too. It's not the last word when it comes to technicalities, but it's certainly a top pick if you just want a really fun headphone, and you don't mind the loss of resolution and detail. Like you've said, they are very engaging, indeed. :)

Now if I can only find a closed-back equivalent of the Abyss Diana V2....

Or I might just have to wait until they release a portable closed back...

I would get a set but ya the IRS needs money for back taxes.... Sigh

America was founded over a tea tax and no say in the matter. Here I am giving up work money to the IRS.... We need another "tea time"... Lol

I‘m sure I‘d be a fan if I had the extra money to possess a VC alongside with my Stellia :)

What's scarier than an anorexic wallet? The wife with the hellish glare; the one who breathes fire from her mouth when she sees you with yet another package.

Anyway, it appears that I have an unwitting mantra these days, too - "Too much to buy, too little money!" :joy:

I've used this excuse before. It worked the first couple of times, though. It hasn't been so effective since.

It's kinda like those online coupons. It's a hit and miss thing. :joy:

The trick is to turn the franchise around:wink:
The next time she starts giving you a hard time because of a headphone, you simply open up her closet and point towards the 30 pairs of shoes she never uses.
‘What?!?!!! You spent a 1000$ on a headphone..when you already own 10!?!!!!!!’
‘Yup honey...and I use it quite frequently as well:).....how many times have you used your 1400$ Manolo Blanichs?’

Sure she won’t hook up with you for the following days...but yeah you do like Bill Burr, rub one out - it’s a champagne of victory:p

Lol. We need to see more of yours! I've been listening this evening; truly impressed, even at this early stage. They even got wife approval... :gs1000smile:
