I had the chance to demo the D8000Pro recently - truly stunning, but heavy as hell. You'll find the tuning quite close to Rögnir, as has been mentioned before.

On the Rögnir? Yes. But it's a different kind of wood to ZMF. Has a more polished quality. I mean, on a purely aesthetic level, let's be honest - nothing really beats ZMF. Here's my two:

I only changed because I wanted/needed 4.4mm for transportable, but the stock cable is superb. The synergy is excellent and I've no complaints whatsoever about the quality. If you only need XLR/6.35mm, then stick with it. It's a very good cable.

Oh I see. I don't think so, no. Probably similar to ZMF insofar as the wood grains produce minimal difference. Choose on aesthetic reasons alone!

Thank you for your help, much appreciated! I'll try out the T5. Have you demoed / considered the Denon D9200, ATH-WP900, and ATH-AWKT? Would any of those have more impact than the Noire + wider soundstage than the Focals?

I did 'demo' the 9200 vs the 7200 (not ideal since it was attached to a metal anti-theft wire), but not side by side with the T5. I bought both T5 and Noire, (got T5 'used' at good price). If you do audition the T5 g.3, if its possible to remove the baffles, do so. I think that they sound much like the T5P, and more typical beyer sound, and more spacious with them removed. With the baffles in, not so much.

The 9200 is probably better performing, but I made the choice not to buy based on:
-increased cost
-expensive replacement pads
-not as durable over long run. (even though I dont beat up my equipment, I want to be able to count on them for years)
-was unable to really see if they were comfortable and reasonably well isolating.

If you can demo anything else, go for it! I will just make a choice between the T5 and Noire (probably T5 at this point for my listening preferences where I need soundstage --ambient, electronic, etc). and a bit more bass/impact. That, and the pads on the Noire annoy the crap outta me.

I will hopefully then exit from spending more money

Welp rognir 400 dollar price increase has put it outside my budget....

To be honest, I don't think the T5 is more durable than the AH-D9200; they both look equally sturdy. Still, Beyerdynamic headphones have always been known for their quality; Denon, on the other hand, has had reliability issues in the past.

In any case, not spending more money is a fantasy.

Woah. It's actually a 400 Euro (!) price increase, which compounds the problem further. I was actually mulling over a purchase. However, this price increase has thrown a large spanner into my plans; I might pass on a Rögnir after all.

I wouldn't recommend the Rognir any longer with a silly price increase.

on audio46 it's 400 dollars more for the US.

It depends also on the albums you are listening to and how much you are used to hearing upper mids and treble with full energy and distortion, if you like more sparkle etc. It is brigter, closer to a V and has more fun factor. The hole in the low mids actually help with older recordings like Testament / Low, making them sound slightly clearer. But they _are_ brighter.

In the last days, I used Stealth to listen to everything, and I got used to the sound. Rögnir now sounds somewhat off in the tonality. But...with Rögnir you can experiment with pads for slight adjustments.

For me personally, it is Stealth, as it is tonally very natural and sounds correct. But hearing what the metal only listeners prefer, Rögnir sounds like better fit for a metal listener. Stealth is like listening to music in a well treated room with no reflections, echo. Incredible with acoustic music, vocals etc. Distorted guitar sounds like you have connected your headphone to an AxeFx processor (amplifier simulation) and you are hearing it. Very realistic. But might sound dull, as well.

As I am writing this, listening to Opeth Morningrise on Stealth.

my favorite bands are Maynard's trifecta , Gojira , alice in chains , slipknot , architect(uk), the other end of rock... Mars Volta, Glass animals, foal, modest mouse, Billy Idol, Danzig etc


ps these are bands with heavy vocal presence, I also like quite a few female vocalist mainly Japanese. anyone who has the stealth and Rognir can chime in ? I'd be interested to know which is best for vocals too. (the above reply was from a different thread)
