They might cost that much on Amazon, but you can get them for cheaper. I just got mine for under $160 shipped, and I understand that this is the normal going price from this seller. Try cobrasonics on ebay. They only list a couple at a time, but they restock.

I don't think anyone's making fakes of these; they're way too specialized. The people who buy them aren't buying them for the looks, so I doubt it would be worthwhile to make fakes of them. The seller has a pretty good reputation here, too. Mine seem to be as they're described here, so I don't think they are fakes.
