What do you think the best headphones are under $100. Im new to the headphone scene in general but dont want to end up with crappy sound. Im mainly going to use them for my ipod and some online gaming. Im looking for something i can wear for maybe an hour or two , without discomfort. After reading the fourm for 15 minutes, i can tell there are so many choices, but i cant seem to narrow anything down. So far two big pairs ive seen are the

koss PRO-3AA
Senn 280s

I dont know if these can do what i want or not. Could someone please offer some advice on what brand or model of headphones to choose. Thanks alot.

Home or portable use?
What source (soundcard, mp3 player, or cd player) do you have?
Is $100 your total budget, i.e. do you plan to buy an amp also?

edit: The MS1s are great for home use, unamped

My favorites from head-fi meets are: MS-1, Senn HD280, and SR-60. The MS-1's in particular really got my toes tapping!

I'd imagine the Senns would be a harder load to drive without an amp, but don't know this from experience, and don't think they are as high impedance as the HD6X0 series that I'm more familiar with.

Deja-vu again... I think someone asks this question every 3-4 days.... Do a search for $100 and im sure you'll hit a bunch of threads.

My vote:
K240s... IMHO best sub $100 can.
SR60/80
KSC75 + cmoy
DT440

Note that I prefer bass heavy cans with pronounced upper midrange and slightly recessd treble. I didnt recommend the V6 because to my ears the mids are a bit harsh. Try and demo as many as you can, your ears may hear them differently.

My brother got a pair of Sony V6's and I couldn't stand them; the Grado SR60 is simply natural and much better for me. More bass too, and that's through a reciever connected to a Creative SBLive 5.1 card via digital coax cable. My amp has been sent out for repair, and I hope JMT got it. normally, I'd use that via analog.

The Grado is easily what I'd consider to be the best under $100, no doubt.
