Adding one of my favourite female voices that I haven't seen mentioned yet, this time being serious: Kari Bremnes and particular any recordings produced from the great Kirkelig Kulturverksted.
Other ones that I favour and  I haven't seen mentioned is Harriet Wheeler (The Sundays),  Margo Timmins (Cowboy Junkies), Tina Dickow, Alison Sudol (A Fine Frenzy), Lisa Ekdahl, and Kyoko Baertsoen  (Lunascape) and of course Susan Janet Ballion  (

Local favorite (Chicago): Cathy Richardson.  Shame her records didn't gather more national attention.  Heck of a voice, and a good songwriter.

Beverly Craven. Wouldn't consider her the best, but she's definetly my favourite at the moment.
