I meant isn't there a mic that is designed for an optical line-in jack. It makes sense. But I guess there is not (for some strange reason). How much does a mic amp cost?

Wouldn't a mic that uses the optical in need to have a built in digitizer?

I would guess, but is it that expensive to put a digitizer? I don't really see whats so hard about it.

An all-in-one microphone, amplifier and A to D converter costing under, say $400? If it were that cheap and easy, few would care about analog ins.
