I meant isn't there a mic that is designed for an optical line-in jack. It makes sense. But I guess there is not (for some strange reason). How much does a mic amp cost?

An all-in-one microphone, amplifier and A to D converter costing under, say $400? If it were that cheap and easy, few would care about analog ins.
