I forgot to mention the cable on the Q40's it is actually really long lol, i was trying to find a replacement shorter cable for portable use the other day but didn't find much information, some people have changed the cable but they have had to modify it to make it work or compatible.

My k240's have a great build and fantastic sound quality and massive soundstage. The bass is elevated 5 db looking at the response chart, so less bassy than an ath-m50x by 2-3 db. The bass may seem to drop down at 100 Hz on a chart, but from listening to them it feels as if they have more extension than my 55's did... Kind of odd, considering that the graphs say otherwise... Well, no matter. I have both of them. L

After reading some reviews on the Q40s, they look like a great option...but that build quality is a bit worrying though, the price might make up for that. I've also looked at ATH PRO700MK2, and Ultrasone HFI-580, not sure about them though...they have good reviews but no one seems to know a lot about them.

NOT rec'd 4 bassheads. Don't believe the hype.
Cross these off your list if big bass is important.

probably hype from a bunch of grado users... And we all know that those are the opposite of bass heavy!

Ive had them before. I can compare them to the xb500s, the xb600s and the dt770s (80 ohms)

The xbs sound about the same with the 600s more bloated in the bass region.

Hfi 580 comparison:

Sub bass: less than xbs in quantity and impact, better in quality.

The dt770s beat the hfi 580s in quantity, impact, and quality.

Mid bass: slightly less than the xbs, much quicker and have the tiniest but less mid bass.

The dt770s have about the same amount of mid bass, the 580s have better quality though.

Lower mids: 580s best all by far.
Upper mids(im assuming these are femake vocals?): 580s are equal to the dt770s.

Highs: 580s highs are soooo nice. Love em.

Soundstage: dt770s have the best soundstage, then the hfi 580s but at this price i honestly wouldnt take soundstage into consideration unless we are talking about open cans.

Comfort: dt770s win, then xb line then hfi 580s. Comfort is terrible on them.

Clarity and detail: hfi 580s and close behind dt770s. Clarity and xbs shouldnt be said in the same sentence.

Basically its all about preference between the dt770s and hfi 580s. Dts have more sub bass impact, 580s have more detail.

I'll definitely take the D600 into consideration, so long as they stay in the price comfort zone, the Pro900s are way out of my price range though.

So long as they can take a bit of a smacking, then they should be fine in my hands...the exposed cord is mainly what concerns me. As for the MK2s, if they don't stack up to the Q40s I'll ignore them then.

Not sure where you are located but there are usually a used Pro900 on the for sale board here for usually around $300. Bought mine for $252 open box Amazon. Also paid $270 for the D600, again on Amazon.

Thanks for the clarifications, I won't even consider those anymore.

Looks like the DT770s might be one of the best options at the moment, would the bass be any different on the 32 ohm? If not, I'll probably get them instead, if it's worse I'll stick to the 80 ohm.

Would like to stay as far away as possible form used, they're $500 online new.

I think buying used is a pretty good idea unless you're worried about scratches and other aesthetic errors. Headphones are pretty rugged and they don't sound worse the more they're used. Unless you're just worried about giving money to strangers, of course. Which is perfectly acceptable.

I like to have the warranty and peace of mind, that and I don't trust used products at all.

What would you guys add to your collection??

M50, DT770 or SRH840 (I know these aren't considered "basshead")

When I already have the Q40 and HFI 580, keep in mind most of my listening is on a portable DAP.

None.
Redundant.
A  Q40 that isn't crippled by Quality Control issues is better than the cans you listed IMO. It's a lateral move. Just an opinion.

Too much bass for audiophiles, too little bass for most bassheads.

Perrrrfecccttt though for chillstep which is what i listen to alot though. Stuff that needs bass but is also heavily influenced by clarity and detail.

But besides that there are usually better options :3

I love my DT770/80's so much that I'm thinking about recabling them with dual xlr so I can run them balanced, just for the hell of it

Already strapped them with alpha pads, wich means I've soon spent more on modding them than what they actually retail for...

What ever right? You can't put a price on love!
