Eh.. I just looked up that Zo 2.3 to see what it was, because he said MOAR BASS. DO NOT. LOOK AT THE IMAGES. Unspeakable acts come up... Funny thing is, there were no websites like that that came up. Only pictures. Lol.

Wooooah there buddy. The DigiZoid Zo 2.3 is a loved product in this thread - you'll need your reasons for recommending against it.

It might still be considered pornography for us bassheads.

(It's not actually pornography)

Price limit is about $300-$400

Figure out if you want a really good headphone with great bass or a bass monster. For your budget you can get an Ultrasone Pro900 used for around $250, add a $100 amp (FiiO E-12 or equivalent) and have a hella good setup that thumps and sounds quality.

Other choices - Denon D600, Denon D2000, Q40 by M-Audio, which may be the best value going.

Wait, what? When I searched it up just now (Zo 2.3) perfectly SFW images came up. Weird that pornography comes up when you search it up...I CALL BLACK MAGICS!

  For cans:
  1. M-Audio Q40s for emphasized bass, neutral mids and slightly rolled-off treble. Pad roll-able (I suggest Beyer velours or Alpha Pads which cost more) and the stock cable sucks so replace it (many people like the V-Moda audio-only cable). Disclaimer: I personally own these.
  2. V-Moda M100s for a fun V-shaped (emphasized treble and bass) sound signature and tank-like build quality. Some people require the XL pads for comfort reasons. Tried in a shop but didn't like them very much because I despise emphasized treble.
  3. JVC HA-M77Xs as mentioned above for an apparently god-like amount of bass which trumps everything else. I've never heard them, but Hawaii and DisCHORD love them.

For amps (all with bass boosts):
  1. FiiO E12 for a lot of power and good build quality.
  2. E11 which is cheaper and smaller (and can optionally be paired with the ZO 2.3 for MOAR BASS).
  3. Headstage Arrow 3G refurb which is more expensive (and customer service is variable) but has two levels of bass boost and additionally has crossfeed, is very slim and has a very long battery life.

That product was an evaluation of a pulled set not the new ones...having said that

 Performance
The HA-MR77X provides a tremendous, thunderous bass response. On tracks with challenging sub-bass content, like the Knife's "Silent Shout," there is no distortion, even at top, uncomfortably loud listening levels. Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the bass response is that it manages to provide a very powerful dose of deep low-end without sounding muddy. "Silent Shout" can easily sound like an unbalanced, booming disaster, but instead the punch and sustain of the deep synth drum loop is delivered cleanly and clearly. The sub-bass range is delivered, but it doesn't receive preferential treatment.

I say it has a "V" and is a one trick pony. that trick is one some of the folks in this thread like. The guy endlessly pimping Sony rubber balls is the one making recommendations. I have not made any as of late. Unless they use a Cowon DAP and an e12 I have no idea how they might like it but it does slam way out of it's league.

Nice set of 3 cans to recommend. I think they can all make bass heads smile in different ways for different reasons.

  q40 vs jvc 77x?

interested in how they compare

i have a q40 + alpha on the way but considered trying out the 77x at one point

It's impact v.s. supreme bass texture.

You wanna a louder more thumping Beats?? 77's all day.
You wanna a low well textured low end that has a middle and a high? Q40.
Q40 is basically an underpriced audiophile can with awesome lows.

IMO..I owned both.
