eww... IPHONE/IPOD USER!!!... Lol. I just don't like the IOS's closed file system, and slow chipset for its price. There are better options than either for less. I'd probably get a google nexus 5. That phone has a quad core, 2.3 GHz processor with 2 GB's of ram, and a better graphics card for 400$. IPod touch gen 5 has a dual core 0.8 GHz processor and 1 GB of ram. IPhone 5S has a dual core 1.2 GHz processor with 1 GB of ram. And they both use a lackluster, low resolution(compared to the 1080p amoled display on the nexus 5, and even the 720p amoled display on the Nokia Lumia 925.) retina display, which is a fancy marketing term for LCD. The iPhone 5s would have been good if it came out in late 2011, but for 2013 that's crap. Didn't mean to sound like I'm bashing I products, but you know...

DAC and output impedance, my friend.

DAC and output impedance, my friend.
... I buy something based on functionality, display, and speed. Apple products only meet functionality. I could care less about a great output with a dac. You can buy an amp with those qualities after the fact, and most headphone buffs do, so I don't see why I'd waste my money on an underpowered, overpriced product, that doesn't meet all of my needs. I look for the best deal overall, not just audio. If I just wanted audio, id buy an FiiO X5 lossless audio player or something. Again, I don't mind that others like apple. Keep in mind that these are just my opinions.

I wouldn't discount Apple, by any means. Especially in the Audiophile market.

Here is my iPod classic. 160gb, custom firmware (no iTunes needed, plays .FLAC, has a full parametric EQ).

An incredibly cheap product, compared to most other DAPs. Very few DAPs have capacity anywhere near this device.

Runs a perfectly clean line-out into any amp.

Or maybe you prefer..

That last setup was pretty sexy I admit. Although I am an Android person, I'm a Nexus fan. I hate all the skins and such, but that's the nature of Android, you can haz whatevar you wants.

I actually sort of regret getting a HTC One now. I should've gotten a Nexus 5!

I'm ok with original iPod classic, shuffle, etc... Just not IMac, iPod touch, or iPhone.
