I've had the D5000 (J$ pads) with my 160D as well as the LCD2s.  'Better' is not a descriptive term for what you can expect.

You lose the fun low end punch and sparkle up top of the D5000's.  You can gain a lot of clarity in the mid range and a more natural sound with the LCD2.  If you've grown used to the Denons the LCD's may come off as boring by comparison.

I suppose by hifi standards here, the LCD2 is 'better' on all accounts.

Thanks man i was afraid of that because when i got my d-5000 it was for the bass. i chose them over senns 650. Grados, and Stax's.

Exactly, better is purely subjective. Having owned the D7000 and LCD2, I think they are on par with each other, though they cater to different things. There is a place for both.

I do think the LCD2 is the better all rounder, since it's very linear and still very musical.

Thats a good point because in a way i am not looking for the same sound come to think of it but what kind of music do the lcd2 excel at. Thanks

One thing is definitive, the LCD2 will sound more organic and natural, especially in the vocals compared to the Denons.

Thankfully rane mixer's are still around. The empath did just get discontinued though which sucks. They're def. the Marantz of the mixer world.

LCD-2 sounded pretty good out of the rane ttm56s mixer headphone out I once had, plenty of headroom and warm, organic sound that mirrored the LCD's coloration.  I bet it's up there w/the integrated, vintage receivers people keeping praising.

Well, I ended up buying an NFB-10SE off a friend and I'm just waiting on a balanced cable to fully unleash the power of the LCD 2's.

Get that balanced source going as well mate.

You're right, it is a DAC and amp all in one, somehow it gave me the impression that it was only an amp. but double DAC'ing will improve the sound even more rather than using onboard.

I was under the impression that is was fully balanced as it has dual WM8741 DACs, or is my understanding of the balanced chain wrong?
