The Altmann Tera Player - Thread

This thread is very accurate and since I create it i dedicated myself to help other and replay to all the questions as best as i can.
Everyone knows that Tera's output is 10 and 20 ohm, and that won't work with every single earphone/headphone out there.

This is entirely about the sound quality and Porta Pro modified headphone and Ref1 and others who are willing to buy a Tera Player would know this.
This player does Deliver the real sound when paired with the right tranduscer.
Guys if you have any questions just ask,no need to argue as it is not healthy :-))

I didn't like the sound of Lotoo Paw Gold,AK240/380/380 Copper compared to the Tera Player. For the amount you pay for the AK380 it doesn't even come with an OLED screen ( i know that is not important for you,nor that changes the sound in any way but it is important for me).
The simplicity of the Tera Player and no GUI/ screen is just perfect operating in the dark,pocket..
And i am sure that Porta Pro with more modification can sound even better :-))
The new Plus5 should be even better then 1plus2,Ref1 Too.....so bright sunny days ahead.
Happy listening my friends.

With what earphones did you test all those daps?

We never know how high you can get until you reached the summit my friend.

Still a lot for you to explore.  For sure you have a very good DAP on hand. Enjoy.
when i reach the summit my friend my life will stop making sense the audiophile /music lovers world is a world of subjectivity, for exemple if everybody only like WilsonAudio , Magico will be broke, at this level is a question of taste , personal taste, not a 100% bad or 100% good thing, for instance your Kefs , i had ones of that line 103/4 years many years ago, not bad but not the summit for shure...wilson audio xlf thats a summit...

Have a look of my profile on my previous home system and you'd know where did I come from.

I care about someone who spent a hell and at then end came up with disappointment.  I went through numerous extravagantly expensive stereo systems and the collective performances were just average and hardly justified the price paid.

In this hobby, we need a lot of luck coming to a heavenly combo (note that I am saying a combo but not an individual component) as what we are hearing is a collective result from the source all the way to the transducers' output.  The most expensive combo not necessarily gives you the best result, unfortunately.  What I've learned over these 30+ years in stereophile hobby is that you need to learn when to stop as diminishing return always slips in over some point of exploration.  I have maintained 95% of the components...the Linn CD12 was the only major component change over the year between 2000 to 2010...  in my previous home stereo system and that allowed my concentration on music than replacing equipments.

While we are sharing our findings/impressions to other fellow headfiers, we must be aware of our own limitation (or exposure) by clearly presenting our credentials/experience as these references we gained over the years will be important to derive a less subjective conclusion.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

100% agree , but in this forum we have a damn luck because when you are hearing headphones you don't have a room...90% of what our home system plays good or bad ...blame the room, thats why some people spent a lote of euros , but the results are sh...t, they start in the end, didn't start in spend theyr money in the begining that is the room were the system will be playing

The reality is that now the unit has been priced way above what I used to pay back 3 years ago (I have no problem with my Apple's shares inflation over the same period though), I, as a previous owner of Tera, would like to share some factuality with fellow headfiers who are looking into this plunge while even @1.5k Euros it is almost doubled the price previously listed.

This I completely agree with - the current price is insane and I agree when it was priced under 2K euro case could be made why that price made sense.
Having said this the other day someone posted a question whether there is a Tera out there for sale. Made me think what I would possibly consider selling my Tera for (which I paid 840 EURO), and I conlcuded that right now I would only sell it for the full price of 10K EURO - because I would want to buy a new one right away with that money. I know this probably sounds crazy to a lot of people but to me the enjoyment I got out of it over last 3 years plus hopefull some number of years to go is currently worth more than if someone for example offered me 8K EURO.
Having said this if I lost my Tera right now, I would not buy a new one for 10K EURO because if would bother me knowing how much I paid for my first one.
Of course none of that makes any sense but there it is anyway.

Hmmm...

Room treatment is of high importance in home stereo system.  Regardless of how good your equipment is, a bad room and bad speakers placement would pull you back dearly.

Below was one of the corners of my hi-fi room and you can see how much room treatment that I put behind it.

The 840 Euro that you and me paid for is a reasonable pricing for the Tera and the machine out-performed at this price range.  Anything over 1.5k Euro I have serious doubt on justification.

You should keep the Tera since it provides you so much satisfaction as you can't find another DAP under 1k Euro can compete with yours.

Well, if you could find someone who is willing to pay 10k for yours...that's a no brainer to part with your Tera.

I truly hope to hear Tera Player one day. Like I've said, without a GUI I'd never purchase one, but damn would I love to hear this player. I know it must sounding amazing and different than any other player I've heard, I've heard quite a few, which makes this thing a must listen.

If the Tera Player didn't sounded so good, all of us including ME would have moved along with new treand/ read players. But many of us have been enjoying it for more then 3 years,so we either crazy or this is as best as it get sound in such a small device.
Never enjoyed and used anything so much, not even my metal detector that is made in USA :-))

I don't doubt it does, that's why I want to hear it. It's a rare item unfortunately, I don't see me listening to it in near future. Although, my girl and I are planning a trip to the UK, hopefully it's by you Musicday, and we have the opportunity to meet up. I'll have my Ref 1 too at that point, if you haven't heard it, of course I'll have it with me.
