Hello. I am totally new to this thread and does anyone have Shozy Alien? I was told that it is poor man's Tera Player. If anyone has both Tera Player and Shozy Alien, it would be greatly appreciated to hear impression or feedback. Thank you.

I have the shozy and Tera. The shozy is an incredible sounding player for the price. I preferred it to the fiio x5 which was around twice the price at the time. it is very similar to the Tera in a natural, organic sense. id say it gets about 75/80% of the Tera for sound quality. It can be buggy and unpredictable but it is a very charming and unique little player. Highly recommended if you like simplicity and don't need a screen

Thank you so much for your impression. I ordered new edition of Shozy Alien today and waiting for it to arrive. I cannot affored Tera Player hence ordered this one instead. i do not need screen and just want best possible sound quality. i guess that simpler it gets, easier to create better sound quality. Again, thank you for your feedback. :)

One major difference between Tera and Alien is that Tera only accept Wav file format but Alien accepts both Wav and Flac. I just wonder why Tera only accept Wav but not Flac since both are lossless file format and often FLAC is superior to LPCM (WAV) in almost all aspects. Is there any sound quality difference between Wav and Flac?

ive had a couple of shozys, and in my experience each unit will PREFER either wav or flac. Flac files are slightly smaller than their same wav files, but whether you will hear a difference is anyone's guess

Simplicity is always better. They say the WAV format is better than others, is closer to the original source. Also WAV files are larger than FLAC but that's not a problem with the Tera Player.I am using 128 SDXC in mine.
Charles when he made it wanted to have a simple as possible design and music capabilities, that's why the Tera playes only WAV,also there was no room on the internal chip as he had to create his own programming language, to achieve what have been achieved in the sound department.
So playing only one type of file no other decoding is needed, the sound is better, battery life is better..
Hope you will manage to hear one for yourself and tell us what you think.

Thank you so much for both of you. I fully understood now. :)  I cannot afford Tera player now but managed to purchase Shozy Alien. Love to own Tera Player in the future. It sounds amazing DAP, indeed. :)

Excuse me but wav is not a single bit better than transparent 320 kbps mp3, let alone lossless flac. Flac=wav but then "zipped". Indeed, "hear it for yourself".
Not going to discuss mp3 vs lossless, that's going to be a war lol. But claiming wav is more the original sound is ridiculous! Wav=flac and if not, then your playback device is faulty.

I heard WAV and FLAC on many music players.I can hear the difference, and i prefer the first, but if you lacking storage FLAC is just fine.
But nowadays SD cards are very cheap.
To each it's own.

No, no and just no again. Both are lossless and 100% identical. I guess you sighted tested them.

As i stopped using any other music player and i listen only to the Tera Player i am happy with WAV.

I agree they are identical because lossless. However, implementation on this type of device is easier with wav only, and if there is not much memory and processing power on the chip that's reasonable compromise.
It also helps battery life by reducing processing requirements. Also given it's so easy to automatically and very quickly convert files when loading the SD card I never understood what's the big deal.

I heard people mentioning that Koss Porta Pro mod with Tera Player is match made in heaven. :) And I cannot find out what modification on PP to be made. Can anyone help me to find about the mod? Thank you. :)
