The Altmann Tera Player - Thread

For me this sounds really good better than before.Don't think the internals have changed but the new algorithm it does make a difference, and for me it seems louder or it may be just my Koss Porta modified by me.I have asked for everything to be black, and maybe the oil he used helpes with the SQ.

Congratulations on your new purchase musicday. However, it's not entirely logical to suggest that this Tera Player sounds louder based on a change to the units algorithm, so are you able to compare it directly to your old Tera Player using the same track and headphones?

Incidentally, to my ears pairing an AK100 with the GloveAudio A1 and playing high resolution music definitely sounds better than the Tera Player, as there's more dynamism and micro detail whilst retaining an analogue like presentation.

Thank you very much my friend. I have said that the new algorithm helps with the shuffle function 100% , not that helps or adjust the SQ in any way.
I will take another Tera player any day to any AKXX models, for example, this is just me, I love simplicity and the screen less feature is something that I really like which I didn't 2 years ago, to be honest. Tera paired with Koss Porta Pro headphones sound very live, with the right amount of bass, and quality,, clarity and enough detail to make it sound life like not artificial. Would love to meet someone with any another DAP to try it against my simple setup.

Hi Atscode i have paid full price of the Stealth Edition.
Is really worth it if you ask me.
No more chasing new firmware updates or upgrade to a new DAP every six month when new one comes out.
Tera is the best at one thing: playing music,no bugs, etc.
Any other questions feel free to ask.
NOTE: i don't work for Charles nor i am affiliated with him in any way.
Cheers, Musicday

Congrats with your Stealth, looks great and undoubtedly sounds great as well :-)

No more chasing new firmwares sound like Ibasso DX90 :-)
FW. 2.0, 2.0.5, 2.1.0, 2.1.5, Lurkers (excellent!) versions of 2.1.0 and 2.1.5, low gain, mid gain, original battery, Samsung S3 battery, Samsung S3 extended battery..........
All these possibilities seem to sound different but just the sheer number of parameters drives me crazy :-(
Which combination is just the right one for me? When am I done? When am I happy over a longer period of time? I need MS Excel! Arggghhhh, I'm loosing it!!!

And then.....

There it is; my "peaceful Tera", love it!

Btw still haven't received the "Senn HD25 like" ear cushions for the Koss PP.........
Been in contact with seller through Ebay, seems they did send them but nothing showed up so far.
Will keep you posted as soon as I have been able to do a meaningfull comparison between PP and HD25

Merry Christmas all!

Algorithm is not really my cup of tea but suspect this part of the software is kind of a random generator which based on
some variables in the name of the songs, checksum, number of bits or sector on the SD Card, chooses different songs in a row.
Not sure it influences the supply of data from the SD Card or the way the electronics are controlled for sound reproduction.

Now for the oil possibillity........

My Tera started to make crackling noises and the tak tak tak sound, very audible while playing music with quiet passages.
Wondered if this could have anything to do with the SD Card itself, maybe after deleting some music and filling it up again
with different music which will end up defragmentated on the card.
Then started thinking about the "oil in the SD Card slot" theory, which probably is responsable for various things:
- smoothening sliding SD Cards in and out of the slot
- smoothening the swith which switches the player on and off
- assuring good contact between the SD Card contacts and the slot contacts
- atracting dust and dirt which will ultimately destroy the slot itself

Hesitated for 3 minutes and decided to try this procedure as Charles obviously is doing the same thing and try to forget
the dust and dirt consequence and not to mention this for me very uncommon procedure with electronics.....

Well, meanwhile oiled the slot with a dummy SD Card, making sure this way not to drown the slot but just leaving some
oil behind after some inserting and taking the dummy out again, meanwhile removing the over-amount of oil from the dummy.

Result?

A Tera player which sounds (as I recall it) like new and even more important, no more crackling sounds and tak, tak, tak.

Will try to overcome my feelings about oil in electronics but am sure the fresh sounding Tera will sooth my restless mind :-)

About the upcoming meet; thanks already for organising, if I have the possibillity and am welcome, I'd love to come.
Mind you, I usually talk equally as long as I tend to write in this thread but can easily be silenced with a cup of coffee... ;-)

For everybody already a very happy new year for you and the ones you love and take care with fireworks!
Tera is best operated with two hands and ten fingers :-)

I suggest you store your Tera in a case when not using it, and especially not in a (linty) pocket. This will hopefully keep the majority of junk out of the slot. I keep mine in it's case even when in use since I am totally anal about scratches and dropping it.

Good suggestion, thank you! Do you mean the case Charles ships a Tera in?

Just found a temp. solution in my "Hall of Junk", with many thanks to Shure.
Btw managed fo find a way of closing the unused output (bit freaky maybe but
every opening less is one gained (???) and it was also on stock in my Hall :-))

Please spread the word about the UK meet as I'm hoping that there'll be at least 3 Tera Players present.

Thank you for the invitation my friend.
Can't wait as it should be fun to meet up with lots of friends and see and try lots of new gear.
