The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread

I keep requesting this drop, then never committing.  I kind of want to add either a k712 or k7xx to my collection with my hd650 and 400i.

Well, if you never commit you'll never get it.  The AKG K7XX is a nice headphone that sounds way better than its $199 price tag.  I haven't heard the HD650 or 400i but from I have read, the K7XX should be very complimentary.

You know you want the K7XX, so buy it, you will.  Hmmmmmm.

I'm doing some looking into the differences between the k712 and k7xx.  Whichever one is the better headphone for me will be the one I get.  The k7xx might be cheaper, but I've got amazon gift cards I can use on half the cost of a k712.

I bought the first edition ones but sold them when I got my X2. Miss them so I got in the last drop, mainly for a few reasons.

Very light, I like the pads better than nearly all my other headphones, excel at orchestral/soundtracks and as an all-rounder.

Orchestral symphonies is exactly what I'm hoping these do well at.  That and gaming.  My 400i fits my metal and electronic needs.

If these are better at this type of music, I'll be able to sell my hd650.

K7xx excels at orchestral symphonies and gaming.  Better than the DT 880 Pro for sure from my experience.

Just got my shipped email from massdrop.. wow they did pretty good on this drop assuming they are really shipped.

Why would they send a shipped email if it wasn't shipped? Enjoy your new K7XX.

Your impressions about these two relatives will be interesting.

The two IMHO  are different.  The 701 is detailed with lots of air a special cues whereas the 7XX has a heavier and more prominent bassy  sound signature with less detail and definition.  The 7XX are good for the money and syncopated techno perhaps.
I find my own preference is for the Senn HD 700 which I also own, which nave that detail,  and balance. The Senn HD 700s even drastically reduced from their former $1,000.00 price, down to about $500, is still a lot more money.
