Ok, I was reading how it had a 3db bass boost eq , I didn't think that sounded very "audiophile" but if it sounds good and not cheesy bass heavy that could be pretty cool

I don't think the K7XX is bassy by any means, a bit warm, if anything.

FYI, AKG K712 Pro, which is advertised as "Reference Studio Headphones" also has the same "3dB bass boost" feature.
From the product website:
http://www.akg.com/pro/p/k712pro
"Improved low-end performance by 3dB
for more powerful sound imaging"
If my understanding is correct, K712 Pro is more-or-less the same as K702-65annie, which make it more-or-less then same as K7XX. Differences between them would be very minor.
Although i have not heard the Annie, the 7XX and 712 ARE different, although minor it is apparent and i do prefer the 712. It is probably not worth the large difference in price it do feel as though it would be worth ~50 -~75 USD to upgrade to the 712.
That should be an absolute bass monster now, if the new runs of massdrop k7XX's are as bass heavy and "dark for an AKG" (still slightly brighter than most planets or the HD650)
I didn't do the bass port mod on my k7xx, but did on my q701, and loved it
Compared to my TH600 and HE-500 no they aren't bass monsters  but they are VERY respectable across the board.
Hmm, I gotta make a decision and quick, huh? I have HD600's and NAD VISO HP50's. Just got an Ember II. Would love to try the AKG sound. At a price that I can flip if I don't enjoy. They don't seem to be targeting the audiophile market though.
