The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread

Well idk about edm but for gaming these are probably one of the best if not the best because of their soundstage. On another topic I am purchasing an old model from the forums what is the best way to go about testing for the rattling?

Play the 10Hz>200Hz file there at slightly above listening volumes (not too high!)
The rattling sound should be pretty obvious (at the 10-60Hz point) if it is present.

Well even not EDM, just production in general, linear and neutral, and a good soundstage, as well as are these based off the k702ae or the k712?

While I enjoy all kinds of EDM very much with them, they are not bass-heavy but rather linear. I think they are well suited for production purposes. Massdop states that they are based on the K702AE, but the differences between AE and K712 seem to be rather minor (did not check myself though)

Just ordered a pair, probably going to sell my HD 700's as they are too expensive for the sound quality they produce. Don't get me wrong, they sound good, but not $500 worth of good. Hopefully these will fill my void in between my hyperx cloud gaming headphones and my beats solo 2's for a more flat response listening experience.

It's open again!

On a related note: anybody know how this sounds compared to a TH900 (I know the price difference, bear with me)? Is it warmer/darker?

I'm in!

I'm very eager to see how they compare to the K712's I bought when I missed out on the first drop!  The Philips Fidelio X2 will have to wait a little longer for my wallet to recharge

Anyone here own the K550 and the K7xx? Any major difference between the two? Want to try these but from what I read can't logically justify owning the HD600 + K550 and + K7xx! Just seems overkill on headphones that overlap in sound quality and/or signature?

I hope these have more low end then the k550, I had those headphones for less then 48 hours because I thought they sounded so boring. I felt like they lacked any sort of character. I took the plunge on the massdrop k7xx today as a knee jerk reaction but I'm thinking more and more that I made a mistake. With the music I listen to (primarily old school hip hop and edm with some classic rock) that I will be once agin dissapointed in an akg product.

For anyone who has heard the massdrops and has heard the HD 700's, which headphone seems to offer better bass response and do the 7xx have any sort of fatiguing treble like my 700's do?

  K712 or K7XX for female vocals/instrumental/OST music?

The dip between 3k-5k makes vocals lack extension and life, especially female vocals. They are too laid back and lack the level of detail of the K70x and Q701.

The HD600 is a better HP if you're after a flat FR. It has more detail in the mids and highs, making it more airy and open than the K7XX. The K7XX is nothing like the old K701 and K702. It is a little heavy in the mid bass and upper bass. The dip between 3k-5k hurts vocals, which older AKGs are great at. The K7XX also lack the air and wide soundstage that the K70x are known for. They are more like the HD650 but with inferior vocals.
