The public beta firmware of Android 5.1 for FiiO X7(FW3.0beta) is coming!

Some feedback on the 3.0.2 beta...

1) Firstly, great job on all this FiiO :) For all the complaints/issues (including mine), the X7 is still a very capable and feature-rich DAP.
2) OTA updates weren't working for me (device constantly said it was up to date), but the manual install/update went fine.
3) The on-screen volume control in the FiiO app used to work beautifully and 100% reliably in Android 4. It was my favorite feature of the FiiO music app, because it made it so quick and easy to adjust the volume. In the 3.0.x firmwares, swiping up/down on the right side of the screen almost never works the first time. After several attempts it usually works, but now it's always quicker to just use the physical volume buttons :frowning2: Also, even when the on-screen volume-control works, it intermittently loses the HUD showing the current volume level on screen.
4) Intermittently, the play/pause controls in the FiiO music app completely stop working. I have to kill the app or reboot the X7 to get it working again.
5) This is a very minor point, but my microSD card is labeled" TF+some random Chinese character. Ok, it may not be random, but my Chinese is not that good  It would probably be better labeled as "MicroSD Card".?
6) Please can we one day get gapless playback!?

Only twice have I seen the "Unfortunately Google Play Services has stopped" message, but FiiO seem to have introduced an auto-dismiss feature for this, which makes it less annoying, even if it does happen occasionally.

If we could just fix 3 and 6 I'd be a happy camper.

Ok, I'll add some I've detected concerning the use of FiiO music app, a few already referred:

VU meter still not synchronized with music and errant in movement
Fast scrolling lists (A-Z on right of screen), letter with no correpondence should skip to next in alphabet (it goes to top)
Yes, volume on screen doesn't work most of the times
Please please... gray letters are too dark (example on search box, sub-titles, etc) - same color as the khz|bits|bitrate caption on app home screen would be fine
Single FLAC files with cue sheet aren't properly imported to library
Please organize tracks inside genres by album (at least)
Still problems playing some DSD128 files, no sound or with cuts

But overall FW3 is a better usability experience than FW2 and sound quality is great.
Its almost there :)

My 2 cents

Among the bugs carried over from 3.0beta,
There is still the the impulse "pop" sound when switching folders or tracks on X7 connected to AM2

  Hi, RuFrost
Thank you for your feedback.
1. Will the DAC interface appear in your X7 when in DAC mode? Your PC can recognize the X7 in storage mode, right? Please try to install the DAC driver again to see whether it helps. And could you please tell us the version of your win7? You can also try another USB ports to see whether it works.
2. Please make sure the decode of your DSD files is not DST first: http://fiio.net/en/story/266
If the files still can be played, could you please upload some to dropbox and send the link to us?

The problem is complex, so I will try to reveal the partial knowledge of it I have.
1) a) DAC interface appears on X7 in DAC mode. PC recognises x7 storages. I have reinstalled the drivers - result is the same. Windows Home Premium x64 (service pack 1).
b) I have tried different ports. I have 3 in total. Usually, I used it within the 3d one (it is the only one on the right of the laptop). 2 other (on the left) - after I connected to the 2 - nothing has happened, but when I unplugged x7 - the port just have stoped working. I connected it to the last one and miracle has happened - device manager has started to be displayed in the tray in the bottom of the left corner. It was saying new device is discovered, and drivers were searched for a while - after that it was installed successfully and was able to play everything as usual.
c) Now, when I connect it to the standard (3d port on the right) - X7 restarting when I enter DAC mode on it or starts to glitch hard in usual modes. Well...it started to work again correctly! I would say x7 starts to work in different USB port, but it is not always connecting.
2) relatively to DSD. The sample rate of X7 is at maximum 192000, while dsd file is much larger 5664800! I think it is the reason for inability to play dsd on laptop even with x7 plugged in.
I think even in when I use onkyo or any other player to play dsd - it converts it to pcm, therefore, so far, even though I own x7 for so long, I still cannot experience dsd after 4 months(((

Hi, RuFrost
Thank you for your feedback.
1. It seems strange but so glad that the DAC mode works finally.
2. Thank you for providing the DSD files. We will download the them and try to get them works.

Very big problem with new FW.

All works fine ... until i add my 200 GB SD card. X7 is restarting and restarting and restarting.

In Pure and Android mode same behaviour

Any ideas? X7 is not usable at all like this with 3.0BETA. I try 3.02

Hi,

At the time of FW1.9 I bought a 200Gb card and had the same problem of restarting, solved formating card on PC using exFat format.

My concern is that hi res files will play but the output through Coax is down sampled. This was not the case with FW v2.0 nor through my original X5. Please confirm that this is an issue.

Really would appreciate some feedback on the issue of the Coax digital output down sampling. Is this just affecting me or is there a bigger issue?

Hi, JHutchins
We don't have down sampling the coaxial output, please don't worry.

It is definitely down sampling at the moment, do you mean that the problem will be fixed?

Hi, JHutchins
1. Did you see the sampling rate from the DAC you used and prove to be down sampling?
2. What is the firmware version is your X7 now?
3. Could you tell us what music file you were playing?
