I don't know why you would say that. It looks like most of the people who have posted in this thread report better than average results. For example, if I remember correctly my score in the adaptive pitch test (.825 Hz) was reported as being the 86th percentile, and there are others who have posted better results than that.

Granted, there is probably some response bias as the people who score well are probably more likely to report their scores than the people who score poorly. Nevertheless, the results certainly don't suggest that "we all suck at listening to audio."

I got bored halfway into the test, haha.

Tone: 97.2%
Pitch: 1.2 Hz
Rhythm: 96%

I'm eager to try the pitch test again on better speakers... I did the tests with onboard sound + Logitech X-230 computer speakers.

"Just curious--how do you know what the answer key is?"-----Febs, the answer key was at the very end of the result pages. I got my score (89.9) and continued to press the next arrow, which displayed the bell shaped distribution of scores and finally the answer key.

tone perception = 77.8%
pitch perception = 1.35 Hz
rhythm perception = 92.0 %

I did the test, listening to my Shure SE530s connected to a built-in PC soundcard.

Mine are as follows:

Tone perception = 79.8%
Adaptive pitch: Reliably differentiate 2 tones to .9 Hz apart
Rhythm perception = 80.6%

(I should also add that I am married, and practice selective hearing when necessary!)

Although my performance was only okay (apart from rythmn, where I did pretty well) the tests seem pretty fair and some people here did really well, i.e showing a range of abilities with some here performing well above average, assuming we all told the truth of course

It would be interesting for the high performers and low performers to reveal their ages.

I listed earlier that I had the following results:

Tonedeaf: 86.1% - Very good performance
Pitch: 0.6hz - Exceptional Ear!
Rhythm: 84% - Outstanding Performance

I think it would indeed be fair to reveal my age. I am 20, so still quite young. I imagine that would contribute to my ability to pick out differences in two difference pieces of audio.

Pitch: 0.1875 Hz (twice), 0.375 (thrice)
Tone: 86.1% (best one out of 3 trials)

Rhythm: 64.0% (best one out of ten trials)

... the rhythm one is so, darn, hard. My equipment was Yuin PK2 out of my laptop Realtek on-board audio + 200 ohm resistor to keep down the buzzing.

86.1% Very good, tone
3Hz Adaptive
84% Rhythm.

I played 15 years of jazz saxophone growing up, I'm a little let down with myself. Time to get back in practice.
