TEAC HA-P90SD (To be released in Dec, 2014)
Jul 28, 2015 at 11:01 PM Post #136 of 447
I haven't tested but teac says it gives 1 hour more battery life when using with a phone.

Please test it and tell us how many hours it can play with your Samsung phone. Try to control everything on your phone. This may extend battery more because you won't turn on P90SD's screen nor touch its buttons.

DX100 can run entirely with external source. It doesn't indicate it's charging but its battery will not drain until it completely drains battery of its external source.

Just to let you know. Now, 128GB microSD card is only 65 dollars.
It was 110 dollars five months ago.
It still comes with 70MB/s speed.

I've pretty much decided to sell all my daps and keep P90

I don't own DX100 and AK120, I own Pono, DX90, ZX1, HM603, QA360, and yes I like the P90 more than any of them.

I really don't ever use the P90 with a phone so I still haven't tested the battery life. But to test right now I will charge my phone and P90 to 100% battery and let them play together for 2 hours and see how much battery goes down.

Should I test with the phone reading from P90 sd card or reading from phone sd card? Reading from phone sd card should theoretically increase run time of P90.

Try both. Make a playlist... 50% from phone 50% from P90's sd card...
and see how long it can run when it's completely controlled by HibyMusic app.
If It lasts more than 6 hours, it wins other portable DACs....

Get this 10,000 mAh ZeroLemon battery case for your Note 3.

With this setup, you can make the longest-lasting music player. Normal DAPs come with only 3,000 mAh....
If you can control P90SD with a 10,000mAh battery cellphone, you're the winner.

I have great news for you, P90 operates from phone battery.

I charged P90 and my phone both to 100% battery, I played music for 2 hours only from P90 sd card through my phones music app, using onkyo headphones with P90 at 50% volume.

After 2 hours P90 is still at 100% battery and phone has gone down to 40%, so the phone battery is taking all the hit!

A big advantage that P90 has over PHA-3 and M8 is that the P90 is a dap and has a built in high quality digital audio source. Meaning that the sound quality of using the P90 by itself is a bit better than using with the digital output of a phone.

So for PHA-3 and M8 to get best performance they need digital output from a good dap rather than a phone, but from a phone still sounds good, I'd say it's a 5% performance penalty. The stand alone capability of P90 and input and output options make it very versatile.

That's what I thought so. DX100 works like that. It doesn't indicate that it's charging but it uses external power when it's connected.

Get that 10,000mAh battery case for your phone. It will last forever.

So, P90SD has many advantages over PHA-3. Battery life, sd card, etc.
You can even try to use a microSD to SD adapter and insert a 256GB PNY SD card which costs only 70 dollars now.

Hey. Finally got my HAP90SD and I'm very impressed with the sound quality. As good as you led me to believe :)

However, I have one major gripe. It's advertised as having gapless playback, but I can't seem to find the option to turn this on. Any ideas?
