TDK IE800 Dual High-Performance Dynamic Micro-Drivers IEM

Yeah if there was an award for best value in an IEM I'd give it hands down to TDK.  I'm really jonesing to try the ba200 especially since people relate it to the UM3x which I've missed since I sold mine.  I haven't heard anything that does imaging this well for under $300 bills even....

+1

IE800 definitely blew my mind away on first listen...

I found the IE800 to be underwhelming after living with my BA200 for quite sometime. Guess it's the BA sound - just my 2 cents.

I agree with comments that these are, technically speaking, up there with the big boys. TDK are really giving Vsonics and Hifiman a run for their money.

Signature wise, I still think these are unique. I've not before heard warm smooth mids topped with such energetic treble. They kinda contrast eachother... which makes the overall cohesion even more of feat.

Does anyone have both the BA200 and the IE800?  What are the main differences in sound?  Or has someone already commented on this...

We hear soundstage differently too - I think they've excellent depth, especially compared to the flatter, more 2D sounding GR07. Indeed, the soundstage is actually my favorite aspect of the IE800.

It's pretty difficult to perceive the placement of sounds in front of me, I mean the distance, it's better on both sides, compared to FXT90 or T-PEOS H-100.

WIll the cmoy 2.03 or objective2 be a over kill for these?

O2 is known to be neutral, with cMoy you can change the sound signature by op.amp rolling.

IE800 are not better for these genres, a more balanced signature would be better, because highs are not extended enough and they're too warm I think.

I've only had these for a couple hours. Bought this from dweaver whom burned these in prior to selling them. I'm kind of on the fence with these. I'm using the Comply's that came with the IEM, the rounder "shure-olive-shaped" pair. Anyone know this model?

The mids is so rich in detail, vocals sound fantastic and so real. Emotions are more easily conveyed compared to the FXD80 and the EPH-100. I hear details I haven't heard with the other two, but with the FXD80's recessed mids and the EPH-100's sound sig., this doesn't surprise me all that much.
The highs are somewhat sparkly, detailed and well-extended. Never harsh or sibilant but not too smooth either. Just a splash of sparkle with a slight smoothness. Never piercing or lacking compared to the other two, respectively.
But the bass. The bass. For dual dynamics, these are too bass light for me. To be more specific: It's punchy when it suppose to be, but it's light. A "tap" compared to the other two. It's controlled, however, and better detailed. I can see now how some people could call the EPH-100 bass bloated.
Using simple bass tests on Youtube, its quite apparent that they extend faaaar. Sinegen might not be the best way to test the rumble but I find at 0db and my computer volume at around 10%, it rumbles enough to shake my head down to around 20khz. I suppose I just miss the punchiness of the other two.

The instrument separation is superb. At times I've found the other two to be somewhat muddy but not the IE800. Each instrument is in its own isolated realm, the layers never bleeding. Soundstage is about average, the same width as the FXD80 but I feel the FXD80 has more depth.

I personally wouldn't call these too warm. The highs aren't so smooth like the EPH-100 and the bass isn't the most prominent in the FR. They're mid-centric to me, personally.

Tip rolling helped somewhat (for comfort and bass punchiness). The MEElec short biflanges can stretch to fit on these and so far, those were the most comfortable. Unfortunately, one of the tips ripped from tip rolling with the FXD80s, which makes them loose. Long story short, they got stuck in my ears, for the second time... I settled on the Comply's I mentioned. They're not entirely comfortable but they''ll do for now. Any suggestions?

These are first impressions and they should change, though probably for the better, with a purchase of a decent DAC and some more tip-rolling.
